Tomorrow, I'm going to see this movie. Out of curiosity, has anyone watched the movie and read the novel by Cormac McCarthy? If so, how similar are they? I'm only asking because I often like such comparisons, even though the answer is often "very different from each other."

I read the book. Actually I tried to read it, but gave up on it.

It seemed, after a while, that it was just trying to be violent just for the sake of being violent. I love action movies, and the sex and violence do not bother me at all. However, in this book, it just seemed ridiculously excessive. The story/plotline seemed confusing too.

I haven't seen the movie, but I plan to, simply because everyone seemed to like it, and I'm hoping that this will be one of those rare instances where the movie is better than the book.
