how did i miss this lovely area of
rejection and dejection?

i am going on week three of query
hell. please read my blog if you want
specific deets.

but i started out thinking i'd be some
sort of sane person and query in batches.
oh of five or seven. going beyond that
would be unseemly.

after i sent out my top tiered agent
queries, and heard nothings and nos,
THEN realized it could take months and
months between query and partial and
full requests, i went nuts.

i just started to query and query.
so as of now, i'm at about 80 queries
with 9 partial requests, one was rejected
in a week.

i think i'm winding down on my querying madness.
i'm running out of reputable agents to bother. =)

what's your story?

60 of them were equeries.
7 partial requests were
from equeries.

Oh wow, that's a pretty hefty batch!

For the future though, I would try sending the queries in small numbers (5-15), and tweaking it according to the responses you get. It takes some fine tuning to get queries right ...

But hey, you have seven partials still out! That's always good! Have any rejections come? Any unanswered queries still out?

thanks, june.

by some strange luck, i think my query
is actually okay. i'm more worried about
my parital. haha!

i've got 9 partials out and it's only been
1 - 3 weeks since most requests, so i think
i've got a wait.

i've got 14 rejections, i think 4 of them assumed
from non-response. i gave them two weeks and
figured they weren't interested.

So you've only received responses for 1/4 of your submissions? Still quite a lot to go! Good luck to you!

80 queries, 9 partial requests--that's better than 1 out 10 getting a good response. I'd say you have a good query!

Best of luck that a partial turns into a full, and a full into an offer, and an offer into a contract, and...

queen of swords, it's an odd habit
i picked up when i first found email
in 1991. 8) some find it annoying, but
i just can't type to the end of the line...
it's sooooo far away. 8)
(and yes, i wrote bad love poetry
as a teen.)

june, yes, i think i still have nearly
60 agents to hear from. i've been
steadily sending out in batches every
day--to keep myself sane. my goal in
querying widely is to try and get one
response a day from *someone*, even
if it's a rejection. then i feel the querying
day was worth it. =)
today : 2 rejections. 2 partial requests.
yay!

jud, thanks for the well wishes!
i call it the "too many ozzes" effect,
as in, too many little men hiding
behind curtains along the way to
getting published. dorothy only had
to deal with one of them, we need
to deal with much more than just one!

Whoa! You may not need it as often as I seem to, but you have an open invitation to visit the Coffee House of Pain as needed.
