Mr. Akinsiku says his Son of God is “a samurai stranger who’s come to town, in silhouette,” here to shake things up in a new, much-abridged version of the Bible rooted in manga, the Japanese form of graphic novels.

“We present things in a very brazen way,” said Mr. Akinsiku, who hopes to become an Anglican priest and who is the author of “The Manga Bible: From Genesis to Revelation.” “Christ is a hard guy, seeking revolution and revolt, a tough guy.”

Based on my prior experience with comic-ized versions of Bible stories, this will be lame. But it sounds interesting, so I'll keep an eye out for it. :)

So, I'm not the only one.

I just joined today and I mainly do didactic fantasy art. But I've been working on a picture story that's in comic book format, that has the serious purpose of describing how Dissociative Identity Disorder works, with some ideas for resolution through Christian/Jungian psychology . As you've surely guessed, I seem to be asking a lot of depth from a "comic book" and who would care about it anyway? My title is "The Warriors of Orionway" and i've done all but the last chapter. I need to find my niche for encouragement in this and get some direction on finding interested people. I mean, people who can be helped by it, not to make money or fame. The last forum I joined excummunicated me for what they thought was "pushing" my book for sales;so, I don't want to mess up here. Any ideas on this or where I should talk about it on the forum?

Welcome to the board.

There are a couple of forums here that might interest you, for discussion of Dissociative Identity Disorder (if that's what you're looking for) and for advertising your graphic novel respectively:

Conquering Challenges
Announcements, Events, and Self-Promotion

We also have a Share Your Work forum (password = vista) which is split into genre and specialist sub-forums including Comics and Manga, if you want to receive feedback on art samples.

Given the subject of course there are no guarantees you'll find sympathetic readers (witness the previous responses in this thread), but it's maybe worth a shot.

...Also, I just noticed this thread on DID in Story Research forum.

Manga and comics are reknowned for having characters who are dark and brooding, and who always come across as having some deep secret past of which they are ashamed and which has somehow shaped them into the stoic and jaded figure that they are today. Many of these characters are introduced as already damaged shells of human beings who struggle through their own darkness as they fight the darkness around them.

So ....

Is THAT the kind of world-building and character development that is in store for Jesus in that graphic novel?

????

Thank you for your response and some tips. I will definitely check them out.

I'm thinking that when the Pope gets control of the world, religious novels and themes will be the going thing for big money and fame, not far ahead.

This could be cool if it remains true to manga culture and not that E for everybody crap either. I mean hey its just an adaptation of a piece of mythology anyway how bad could it be.

There is an older version, "The Picture Bible" which hits the highlights in comic-book form. But it's traditional, you know, set in the Middle East.
