View Full Version : Students in Need!

Hello, I am a student at Blake High School in Tampa, FL. I am a member of the Creative Writing department at my school. I noticed that we don't submit our poetry to a great number of magazines or books. We HAVE submitted to some of the more popular publish-anything-books, but the standards of the writing from our department deserve a lot more credit and respect than that. I was hoping I could be refered to some of the better more credible publishers who accept submissions. Most of the work is adult-level writing, so high-school level AND adult-level contests will do!

Thank you!

Here are some resources that should help:

Some excellent tips on how to sell poetry (http://www.sff.net/people/neile/how.to.sell.poetry.htp), from published poet Neile Graham.
Good advice on writing and publishing poetry (http://%20http//www.poets.org/help/writefaq.cfm), from the Academy of American Poets.
An article on how to submit poetry to literary magazines (http://wind.wind.org/submitting.htm).
Last but not least, some warnings about contests and anthologies (http://www.sfwa.org/beware/contests.html).

Another place to start would be Poet's Market. Just be sure to cross reference with the warning sites.
