Mexico City gangs

Anyone have any "expert" knowledge on Mexican gangs, particularly in the drug trade? The web is only getting me so far.

I know a bit about American gangs. My main questions revolve around getting in and out. Are the jumping in/out procedures roughly the same? Is it as difficult to get out of a Mexican gang as an American one? (My character got involved with the gang at a young age.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This novel/movie is about gangs in Rio de Janeiro. I haven't read the book; the movie blew my mind. Although it's not Mexico City, it might help you with getting a feel for this sub-culture. If nothing else, this is a movie that deserves to be seen (and apparently based on a true story). Good luck!
