The scene: Me sitting in my office, scanning the AW boards when, of course, I should be writing. Enter my wife, ostensibly for the purpose of asking me to do something (probably take down the outdoor Christmas lights).

HER: Mornin. What are you doing?
ME: Not much. Checking out AW. I need to do some writing here in a few minutes.
HER: Hmm. What's that? (points toward screen)
ME: What? That? Heck, I dunno. Some Google ad. I think it helps pay for the site.
HER: "Filipina Gallery?" They sell foreign women to pay for the site?
ME: No, of course not. It's just an ad. AW doesn't have any control over what is advertised.
HER: Hmm. Did you click on it?
ME: What? Of course not! Why would I do that? I don't think anybody ever actually clicks on them. After awhile you hardly even notice that they are there.
HER: I noticed it. Right away.
ME: ...
HER: So. how much does a Filipina go for these days?
ME: I have no idea. I didn't click on it.
HER: She's very pretty. Probably pretty expensive.
ME: I really hadn't looked that closely...
HER: You think you could tear yourself away from the computer long enough to help me out around the house?
ME: yes ma'am...

So, I think you can see the problem.

:D

Use Firefox. Then you can't see the ads. Neither, presumably, will your wife be able to.

I'm using the latest Firefox and am seeing pretty Filipina ladies right now. In fact that's been the only banner ad on this site for days.

That's weird. I don't see any ads at all. Maybe the ads only show up if they know, deep down, that you really do want to buy a pretty Filipina lady.

It's the new Firefox Intuitive Package.

I was directed to this plugin (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865) for Firefox in a thread about this on the Tech Help board. After installing it, if you right click on the Google ad banners at the top of the page and select "block this frame" (I think that was the option - it's fairly clear which one it is), then the frame disappears entirely, leaving a neat page every time I return.

Opps. Didn't see that other thread. Sorry about that. I was probably distracted by the pretty lady....

Or by my wife slapping the back of my head. :)

That's not helping.

And there she is... at the top of my page.

Where's the Antonio Banderas banner!?

No problem, and I share your pain, I had a heck of a time convincing my other half these were ads, not sites I was visiting. Maybe show your wife these threads, if you haven't already? IT'S NOT HIS FAULT, HONEST!

1.) Right click on the Google ad up top.
2.) Select 'Block Images from pagead2.googles.
3.) When the yellow tab appears across the top of FF, select the X (close icon).
4.) Problem solved....

That worked. I kinda miss her, though, now that she's gone. Sort of an empty, hollow feeling. I'll get over her. Sure. Just takes time, right?

::sigh::

Well, you can always right click that spot and un-check the same line, when you're feeling lonely. :D

Yeah, I use Adblock Plus, too. It's particularly useful when on Yahoo!.
