View Full Version : Regarding Rep Points

I decided to make this a new thread because I have a serious confession to make. I have never given a rep point, even though there have been many posts I thought were funny/insightful/helpful/poignant. And further, today was the first time I checked my rep points. To my great surprise I had some. And from some members I think highly of. (Members of which I think highly.)

So this is my way of thanking all those who have repped me and received nothing in return. I wasn't being uppity, just inattentive.

I didn't understand the rep points thing either when I first started. Went a few months before I realized how it worked. I'll add my apology to yours.

It's okay, folks. We forgive you.

Now... get crackin'! :D You've got a lot of lost time to make up for! (For which to make up... er... up for which to make!)

That's why you need to join the 'obsessive rep checker club thingy' if only as a reminder :}

I joined just a while ago and didn't know what they were. So when I clicked User CP and saw that someone had given me one, I thought it was an omglikewhoa moment and PMed the person, thanking them profusely. Now I realize that they're not, you know, the rarest thing ever and that I didn't need to overwhelm the person with gratitude... rookie mistake, I swear. :P

Reps will make you fat and cranky. Avoid them whenever possible.

Don't let it bother you, June. I rather enjoyed your overwhelming gratitude. :D Just kidding. It wasn't me.

I didn't know about the rep points for the first couple of months, too.

I felt like such an ungrateful ass. So I've repped like crazy every since.

Nor did I, and now I assume that most people don't notice them for a while. I think I gave a rep to a newbie the other day that said something like, "You won't discover this for a while, but nice post." ;)

It's no big deal if you don't give out rep points. I don't.

Oh, except the first time I log on to AW on a given day, I do give out two. I do a search for Haggis and Rllgthunder to find their most recent posts and I give each of them a negative rep point with the message: you stink.

It's a great way to start the day. Everyone should do it.

Good idea. Everyone give Kevin a negative rep point. Or ten.

I can take it.

I've never actually given a negative rep point. Do people actually do that?

I had about 20 rep points before I noticed...oops.

Honestly, neither have I. But I have gotten a couple.

However, most people don't give them out, in my experience.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that there is something seriously wrong with Mscelina's cat?

Someone has to offset Haggis...who's always turning you on.

HAHAHAHA I came on today and there were two new rep points from this thread--how very, very cool! Just don't be expecting some PMs about those--I can give y'all more ;)

Take that however way you want to.

Giving negative reps seems like a really bitchy thing, to me. Unless the person, you know, purposely offended my mother.

Rep point inflation has made them worth less than Monopoly money.

Lmfao, I seem to be getting more points on here than I have gotten in any other thread. Rep point shopping indeed.

Hey, June, you know if you join orpcc (the initiation isn't too bad:)) you can get lots o' rp's and even ask for them when you're about to reach a good round number of them.

Sounds cool. How do I got about doing that?

oo and for that matter, do rep points do anything after your pass the 'Super Member' finish line?

Yep. There sure is. The cat didn't rep point me when commanded to. See what happened? But wait....it gets better....

l) Ya just gotta post there and you're in.:)

2) Nah, rp's are just a nice way of repping the person for their post, or for making them feel good.

It's weird for me, considering I come from a forum where rep abuse is dealt with very strictly. Rep, in the forum I come from, is only for a contribution that helps the forum as a whole, and not to be given out "like candy."

Amusing how it changes from forum to forum.

Rolling Thunder

Reps are more like passing notes in class here, Viral. They foster camaraderie and help people get to know one another better.

Count wise, once you're here for awhile, the total is pretty meaningless. :)
