View Full Version : My Sister

01-14-2008, 02:26 AM
To anyone who has known the saga of my big sister, Lucy, these past six months, know how she had to be on oxygen and then a ventilator. She struggled to be alive.

On January 12, at 6 PM, two hours after I left her bedside, she died. My heart is broken. She had the most beautiful smile that lit up her face, and as one person who hardly knew her said, "Her beauty from the inside shines through."

I may not be on AW much this next week, as I'm the one planning her Memorial Mass for Saturday. She lived with us (my husband and two sons) for the past six years and it was wonderful.

Here I am, a writer, and I'm at a loss for words. Thank you to all who have prayed for her or sent positive thoughts her way. It truly gave her strength to be with us awhile longer to say her good-byes.

Stormie, I'm so sorry. How terribly sad. Please know that we're thinking of you. It's wonderful how fondly you speak of her. We should all leave such a legacy.

Take care.

The Daisy Follows Soft the Sun

The daisy follows soft the sun,
And when his golden walk is done,
Sits shyly at his feet.
He, waking, finds the flower near.
"Wherefore, marauder, art thou here?"
"Because, sir, love is sweet!"

We are the flower, Thou the sun!
Forgive us, if as days decline,
We nearer steal to Thee,--
Enamoured of the parting west,
The peace, the flight, the amethyst,
Night's possibility!

Sorry about your sister.

I share your loss. My sister was the best part of my life. She passed from complications of jeuvenile diabetes.

You'll be in my thoughts.

I'm so sorry, honey. I know she knew how much she was loved, you are the very best of sisters.

I don't know you, but you have my condolences. To lose someone you care for is always a horrendous event. One day you'll be able to remember the good things without the pain, I'm sure. Be glad that person existed so that you could know them.

Cold comfort I'm sure right now, but my thoughts are with you.

Oh stormie-
I knew when I saw the title of this thread that this was a good bye to someone beautiful.

My heart is broken too even though I never knew her.

Her struggles are over now but love remains.

Take it slow, be kind to yourself, come back when you're ready.

Very sorry, stormie.

When my Mum died, the only words that gave me any comfort were, "she's a star in the sky now".

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Loving never closes doors
and though the room is empty
a breath of essence wedges
between door and doorframe
so we know those we loved
are not lost, but wait for us,
patiently loving us back
from an empty room so full

So sorry for your loss.

I am sorry, is so useless.... losing a love one hurts and everyone grieves differently. I will keep you in my prayers.

It is easy for a writer to be at a loss for words, especially when the death is so close to you. In time you will find the words to write about your feelings, and sister. Don't push it...

Oh, Stormie. :(

I'm so, so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family. *hugs*

Hi All,

As I read each of your posts, I was so touched with your kind words! It means so much to me. Even though my sister was in long-term vent units for the past six months and not home, the house seems empty now. What I keep telling myself is that she's now free from that ventilator, free from being poked and prodded, free from her body that hindered her from doing as she wished. I know she's watching over me, loving me still. I just miss her smile and her hugs.

My husband and sons have been supportive, even though they grieve too. The Memorial Mass is planned for this Saturday and most of the family will be here. I have chosen the songs that I knew she liked.

Again, thank you. You guys are great!

Here's something sort of strange and funny: One of my sister's friends called and started the conversation by saying why was the mass a week after her death, where was the church, how in the heck was she going to get there, etc. Geez! This also happened when each of my parents died. There was always one person who called me and complained about something to do with the obit or the church or the luncheon or whatever. I guess it's their form of grieving. I was very proud of myself. I stayed calm, not stormy, and just listened.
