Full Summary
Greetings heroes and evildoers! The comic book forum kicks off the new year with a rock ‘em-sock ‘em battle of super (writing) powers. It’s the Justice League vs. Avengers vs. X-Men vs. Defenders vs. Teen Titans in a Cage Match on Krypton that will wake the neighbors and put every 12-issue miniseries to shame!

Meanwhile, at the Bat Cave … here’s how it works:

1. Look at the linked page below. If you cannot see the page, go to http://jasontudor.com/storage/comic/comic_con.jpg to look at it. Gaze upon it. Let the vibes of Doctor Strange permeate your psyche and give it strength.

2. Create a one-page “story” based on what you see below by filling in the bubbles or caption boxes. You’ll notice there are eight (8) places for text. And you can only squeeze so much text into those boxes. How much? Glad you asked, daring crimefighter!
1. Two sentences
2. Two sentences
3. Three Sentences
4. An expression, not necessarily a full sentence (ex. "I guess so," or "Maybe ...")
5. An expression
6. Three sentences
7. One sentence
8. An expression.
POW! That’s it!

Here's the discussion thread: http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88920

Send your entry to me via private message labeled “Comic Contest Entry.” I’ve got to have your entry by 9 p.m., EST, Jan. 18 or Galactus will eat the planet! So, heed the deadline OR WE ALL DIE!

I’ll gather all the entries. They will be sorted and prepped at Xavier’s School. Then, we’ll post them (without IDs, of course). The populous of AWtropolis will then vote for them. Any AW member may vote by sending me a PM with their top 3 choices, in order. Note the voting period above.
Cerebro will count the votes and pick a winner. We’ll make the announcement, jump in the invisible jet and get back to crime fighting!

For the sake of humanity, so that Superman might survive another Lex Luthor scheme, so that Reuben Flagg continues his work as a Plexus Ranger; so that Grimjack roams Cynosure; and that Alpha Flight and Captain Canuck continue to be Canada’s coolest superheroes ...

EVERYONE TO THE DANGER ROOM AND … ENTER NOW!

What fun! I hope more than me attends this party. Great opportunity for drama (or comedy really if you think about it) it's a great little scene with lots of possibilities.

Just asking, no hassle intended -- your directions re number of sentences for each dialogue balloon -- are they rigid absolutes or suggested guidelines?

Mostly, I'm looking at what the balloon will hold. That seems to be a realistic constraint under this method of plotting. So, I think each contest entrant has to look at the size of the balloon and ask, "How much text will go in there?" :)

Thanks for the sig line add!

Understood; being a Virgo I actually took a moment to insert the dialogue to see it would fit OK. Thing is, there were a couple of instances where a dramatic pause... seemed more effective than splitting the dialogue into two sentences, I wondered if you'd let me get away with this or if I'd end up disqualified and drummed out of the forum in disgrace.

PS - do we submit numbered captions in UPPERCASE WITH EMPHASIS IN BOLD ITALICS or as Mixed Case with emphasis in UPPERCASE?! :)

Sunkissed, I look forward to your entry and everyone's entry before the 9 p.m. EST Friday deadline.

Depending on the number of entries, I'll actually be inserting the text into the balloons and posting the result as your entries. So far, I'm not innudated with entries. However, too many and I may have to call in the cavalry. :)

#3. (Note: Too much text to fit into balloons). - The Big Kahoona

1) No,…wait Frank! I know I ate your “Kung Pow Chicken”, but I honestly didn’t see your name on the box.
Come on now Frank,………. we both know this is about me making you Xerox your butt at the Christmas party.

2) Look,…look, I tell ya what. I will tell everyone it was my butt, And I will regurgitate the “Kung Pow” and feed you like a baby bird,…ok?

3) I had to much to drink and you took advantage of that fact and the extra strong Xerox framework.
I’ll tell ya though, that new A1-11 model really holds up, huh! No,…No, you chicken “lovin”, butt “xeroxin”, idiot, your gonna pay!

4) I give up.

5) Ya got my number.

6) But I think you deserve the truth Frank. It wasn’t the strong frame of the A1-11 that supported you. It was Eva the “Hunde like” sales assistant that held you teetered over the A1-11 while I took the pictures.

7) What,…Eva, who used to be Evan in accounting??!!!

8) Die, chicken boy!!

#8 (Note: Too much text to fit into balloons) - brainandfingertips
1. Please, don't! I'm not the one responsible!
2. Dr. Cardinal made the decision to use a blue eye to replace the one you lost in the accident. It was all we had!
3. Well Doctor, lucky for us, I'm not responsible either! You see, ever since you put this thing in me, I've been losing my temper – rather suddenly! On the phone earlier, who did you say this eye was from?
4. You’re right...
5. It’s me.
6. At that moment, I knew what I had overheard was true. The medical team chose to use the most convenient donor eye available at the time of surgery. A blue eye belonging to my former cellmate, Mr. Wesley Ripere, famed cult leader and mass murderer.
7. So when you get to hell, tell 'em Wes sent ya’!
8. Here's lookin' at you, kid!
