This used to run on UK (I think) during the Saturday morning cartoons

Holy shit! I'm never bathing, swimming, duck-watching or even going outside in the rain ever again.

Lol! Seriously, that's pretty damned effective. Maybe a little too effective, but it probably prevented a drowning or two.

It's also the perfect excuse for all cinematic villains being British. They are clearly not to be rivaled at evil.

Doesn't help that the spirit of Dark and Lonely Water was voiced by a former James Bond villian

and of course, US is not at all innocent of this one:

I think this P.S.A probably sparked "The great boycott of all things water" amongst 5-7 year olds everywhere. :)

I grew up with a talking toilet (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCwoGMt-38A) anti-drug campains with headless puppets and cheesy horror movies like men whose hand was evil and came back to life to kill him while he was sleeping...

That first link you provided is scary but what's scarier is I can remember it being on TV along with another ad that was similarly about water safety. Though the atmos is kind of ruined with that Cockney kid going, "Eer! Vers shamwan in tha waw'ta!!!"

This advert (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yRTo8j9203I) scared the shit out of me as a kid, mostly because you don't find out what happens to the poor bastards. I remember asking my mum, "What happened?! Did she do it or not?! Are they OK?!"

And I kept expecting a follow up ad with a, "Previously, on British Gas..." recap.

God, that's the greatest thing I've ever seen.

Well, no, the second greatest. This anti-weed commercial is the BEST ever.

You.... Are high. Waaaaaay too high.
