Hello people,

I'm not too savvy when it comes to the text and IM scene and corresponding lingo. I have a couple of questions as far as what the hell some of these "words" mean and I want this thread to be where anyone can post questions concerning textspeak etc.

My main question right now is:

What does this mean? <3

haha, yes, that's a heart.

I'm more comfortable in real-world speak, but I'm also sixteen...feel free to ask me anything.

Ahh ok. So what would the context be for using that? I heart you? Is there such a thing? And if so, what does it mean?

There is such a thing as “I heart you,” which means “I love you.”

Hmmm, thanks ToT.

I'd also like to hear what some of the younger members who text regularly have to say. Is it something used casually. I'd hate to commit a grievous and irredeemable faux-pas.

Well, it's just that I like this lawyer I have and, frankly, his texts are freaking me out. ;)

And there's no way in hell I'm calling you old, silly.

I use to HATE texting when I had my old phone, or when I actually got a cell. Now, I text on a regular basis. And do you count 21 being too old, if you so you better duck behind a couch, mister! Haha!

Wait...you do know what HAHA means, right?

I can help because I usually help my mom with these sort of questions to get her into the real world of things. Including texting.

LOL: the obvious LAUGH OUT LOUD
LMAO: of course, LAUGH MY ASS OFF

LOL is the nicer version of LMAO.

IDK: I don't know.

?: you can just put the question mark for question...duh! Simplier.

NM: Not much.

And for me, I actually text like I'm typing. I have to spell the whole words out unless I can shorten it in some way.

Hope I helped!

<3 means I love you, or love...so-so...

My dad thought it meant less than 3...lol

I used to you use text speak or computer speak...but I rather just type it all out now, even on my phone

My daughter has this habit now of actually saying, in normal conversation, "LOL" to anything mildly amusing. It is really part of her vocabulary now, with a specific meaning, kinda "That is pretty sick Dad."
