Tacky. As in "Honey, that is so tacky!" Webster's defines it as "unfashionable, in bad taste, seedy." I think that it used to be more commonly used in the Southern US, but is more widespread now, probably due to the "Mama's Family" sketches on Carol Burnette many years ago.

Susurrus: a soft murmuring or rustling sound. A whisper. Ran across this one in a Pratchett book. It's not easily worked into conversation or even into a paragraph, but oh the pretty sound it makes.

So ... what are your favorite words?

Crapulous: given to or characterized by gross excess in drinking or eating, or suffering the consequences thereof.

How can you not love a word that so clearly defines itself by its very sound? LOL!

I tend to like words with a double ess sound:

Sassafras, Siesta, Sunset, Sea shore.

I could go on.

Any word with a silent g at the beginning has an appealing weirdness, like:

gnarled
gnat
gnome
gnaw

Serendipity
Synchronicity
Persnickity

And, I'm sure I've spelled them all wrong. :D

"Fungible," which means of exactly the same qualities yet different. Coins are fungible.

Maryn, also fond of "villain"

Mephitic - foul smelling

Interestingly, the skunk family is called the Mephitidae and the common striped skunk is Mephitis mephitis... gotta love that Latin :D
