How do you guys survive when I'm not here? I know I have a terrible time when I'm not here.

How do you do it?

My New Years? Glad you asked. I have a new crush(s). Twins. Oy!

Remember the Nelson Twins, Ricky Nelson's sons. Well, they've grown up. Really nice, I might add. They've cut their hair and filled out into their men bodies. My hubby rolled his eyes when I told him. :D

Okay, I worked at The Silver Legacy Casino new years eve. Some of the regulars don't like the temps and I happen to get stuck with two Mexican guys who don't like American women or perhaps women at all. Anyway, they were really mean to me all night. I was the server and one of them was my runner. After a couple of mental blows from these guys, I decided I was going to enjoy the band and the DJ and have a personal party and bring in the new year properly and ignore these two. But every time I needed something I was told to get it myself. So I decided after getting nowhere with the supervisors I was going to do the running and serving myself and dance around while I did it. The pair of mongrels grew angrier as I had more fun.

I made my customers feel at home and we sang and danced around my tables and had a blast bringing in the new year. My pockets were filled with cash during the evening and I made some new friends.

Now, sometime during the band's first set I noticed they were singing Ricky Nelson songs and heard one of the singers say that this was the first time since Ricky's death 22 years ago New Years night that they have played on New Years night. I tried to look over to the stage and serve customers at the same time to get a good look at the twins and when I finally could, I realized it was Ricky Nelson's sons!

Then I started really listening to them sing. I had a Ricky Nelson double album when I was 10 (15 years ago <cough>) and listened to it every day. I loved it! And to hear the twins sing their father's songs in tribute to him that night was heart warming. These guys were really doing something toward their healing from Ricky's death and it that was cool for me.

At the end of the night I met them back stage and acted like a dork and asked them for autographs, which they were happy to do. I told them it took great courage to do what they were doing and was happy they did it. They appreciated it. One of the twins took off and the other stayed behind talking to a distant relative taking a few pictures. I decided to get a drink of water and stood down a hall listening to them talk when I noticed Gunner was looking for his brother. I called to him telling him where he was and noticed a bottle of cold, freshly open bottle of...I don't know how to spell it so I'll sound it out... Don Perrion sitting next to me. I asked him if he wanted some as he passed by and he politely refused. A few minutes later the twins passed back by and Gunner asked if I still wanted to have some of that Don Perrion. I said yes. I wasn't going to pass up this moment for nothing. He asked me to grab some cups and follow them to their room (the same thing that's going through your mind was going through mine *grin*). I followed, of course, somehow never being spotted by a supervisor the whole time. It was like the path was cleared for me from above as a reward for putting up with such terrible manners from the boys I worked with. The twins said that we were going to have a toast to their dad the right way.

We entered the room where the band and some family members were relaxing and the other twin (didn't catch his name, duh) said that I was nice enough to offer them an expensive bottle of champagne and that we were all going to have a toast to his dad. It should have been a memorable moment for me but I was in shock that I was in this room with these people during such a personal moment and couldn't get my mind off the way one of the twins gently covered my hand with his while he poured my champagne (still breathing hard over that one). The twins said their salute to their passed father and we toasted. I asked them not to get me into trouble, took a drink of water and ate a mint to cover my breath. I wished them a happy new year and left, elated.

I went back into the ball room and helped clear the rest of some tables and counted my tips. $87.00. Everyone else made under 10.00 if they made any and most didn't make anything. All eyes were on me when one of the regular employees asked who my runner was. I said that it didn't matter because he was very rude to me all night and wasn't going to see an dollar of my money I earned working my tables and I didn't want to hear a word about it. They all stood there looking stupid with their mouths shut. I folded my money and stuffed it in my pocket and left.

Oh, and the other guy who was mean to me, spilled a very large tray of old drinks, mostly red wine all down the front of him right in front of me. It was so funny. I walked by and he saw me then tipped the other end of the tray the other way and spilled and dropped glasses while my runner tried to help him. I just smiled and kept walking.

It doesn't pay to be mean but if you endure during the mental torture, payment is sure to come your way. Well, at least that night it did.

Happy New Year!

How was yours?

I love you dorks!
