Santa Claus is coming to town tonight, but he's not staying very long – 34 microseconds, to be exact. That's 34 microseconds to slide down the chimney, eat cookies, drink milk and drop off presents before getting back to his sleigh and doing it all again at the next house.
Sweco, an engineering consultancy in Sweden, estimates that in order for Santa to travel to 2.5 billion homes in one night, he must live in Kyrgyzstan, not the North Pole. Taking into account geographic density and the fewest detours, among other factors, Santa simply wouldn't have time to make his trip around the world if he left from the North Pole.
Leaving from Kyrgyzstan, if Santa travels against the Earth's rotation and his reindeer travel at a speed of 3,604 miles per hour, he has 48 hours to deliver all the presents. Sweco's projections are based on estimates that there are 48 people per square kilometer and 66 feet between
each home.

Rather than cookies, in 2008, leave Vivarin and a Jolt cola.
