In my mother's family, the Christmas gift that was traditional for several generations was one orange per person. That was the only gift.
In my father's family, when the children were finally allowed into the front room to see the candle lighted tree on Christmas morning, Saint Nick threw candies into the room while they were there and they never caught him.
