An old friend of mine from high school sent me some of her writing to read. It was good! Her birthday is next week so I wanted to get her something writing-related. I don't want to spend more than $20. I thought about a nice journal, or a fancy pen, but she only writes on her computer.

I also thought about getting her a book about writing, but I don't think she'd read it. Her grandfather was a rather big name novelist so she's pretty adviced-up.

Anyway, I am just looking for some cute token of my appreciation. Any ideas? Thanks!

Write her a poem? You could have it printed out and laminated or framed.

Me write a poem? ha =)

When I searched the threads here someone suggested framing a poem, and it's a very nice idea, but her wall is like completely full of stuff. So that put me off from the idea. But I suppose a poem doesn't take up much space...

Try W.O.W (http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=937879052&searchurl=an%3Djon%2Bwinokur%26bi%3D0%26bx%3Doff%2 6ds%3D30%26sortby%3D2%26sts%3Dt%26tn%3DW.O.W%26x%3 D59%26y%3D12), Writers On Writing, by Jon Winokur.

Not an advice book, a compendium of quotes by writers, some enlightening, many hilarious. It's out of print, but if you can't find it, I noticed on Amazon a similar book he's done.

You might not want to give it up if you get it, though. Here's one:

"No passion in the world is equal to the passion to alter someone else's draft."

H.G. Wells

A shiny new flash drive! We all need extra back-up, right? And you could write her a letter and store it on it before giving it to her, making it personal.
