I will complete a play this year! I will!
Does anyone know the copyright legalities involved in adapting a novel to a stage play? Does copyright exist for only a certain number of years after the author's death? Who do you contact if you want to adapt a novel to a play?

Thanks.

the sporting capital of the world. Oh! That's Melb
My information is 70 years after the death of the novellist.

So anyone who has died earlier than 1937 is up for grabs.

Sounds like a great idea and hope it goes well.

Would like to read one of your plays one of these days ;)

Adding to this, if copyright has not entered public domain, you have to obtain permission to adapt the work from the work's author. Or if the author is deceased, from whomever is in control of the author's estate. However, few (if any) authors will give this right for free. It could cost anywhere from a dollar to into the thousands of dollars.
