It's not what he's singing...

Okay, I got the volume to work and, oh my...Is that really him or is he a master lip syncer? (Did I spell that right? Is it even a word??)

Holy cow!

ETA: On second listen I got to wondering, maybe he took the name of the contest - "Give Us Your Voice" a little too literally. I hope whoever's voice he's got isn't missing it too badly....

I think that clip expunges any doubt it's really him singing.

Soprano Castrati, by the sounds of it.

Chalk one up for creepy because he definitely wasn't lip synching. He even had a slight Jodi Benson-esque quality to his voice. (She was the voice of the Little Mermaid in the movie. I only remember that because I met her.) :e2paperba

Soprano Castrati, by the sounds of it.

Countertenors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countertenor) do sing alto and soprano parts. They're not castrati, just men whose voices have that range. The musical group Chanticleer (http://www.chanticleer.org/) has a number of countertenors, some of whom could sing soprano and tenor parts with equal ease.
Quite a wonder to see.

This guy sounds quite a lot like some of the Chanticleer countertenors.

We do now.

pahhhhhhhh. Nice.

We used to say, "It's better than a kick in the crotch with a frozen mukluk." But somewhere along the way it became, "How would you like a kick in the mukluk?" The way things morph, eh. Go figure.

When you click on the MENU button while watching that video, you can see other people singing the same song. Apparently it's for a chance to go to NY to see the Broadway rendition of The Little Mermaid. They get to sit in on a cast recording, too. Not my thing, but hey. This young lady (http://cgi.fark.com/cgi/fark/youtube.pl?IDLink=3241449)has a really new, interesting version of the song.

ETA: The link takes you to the same guy, so to see the young lady I'm telling you about, start the video of the guy, click on MENU and then click on the picture to the right of the one that says Notre Dame. It's a dark brown picture. She's not bad after about 10 seconds.

Say what you want but this guy has a great range. We singers could only dream to have such a range -- when he sings the girl's part, it's not just falsetto. Impressive. I think I'm in love. LOL.

Ray, who has a deep voice ;)

Now, should I post the ones from yesterday, or LAST week...?

Soprano Castrati, by the sounds of it.

But castrati don't have man's voice. This guy can sing the guy's part too and that's why I think it's impressive. He's definitely a countertenor. Not quite a soprano yet.

in the second video his facial structure itself seems to go masculine, feminine, masculine, etc. when he jumps octaves back and forth.

singers, is this common when getting that awesome?

Well, I managed to waste mucho time at that site -- not the fark one, but the Broadway one (http://www.broadwayworld.com/mermaid.cfm#contest) that's sponsoring the contest. Did you go there? And didja notice that he has, like, 10,000 more votes than any other entrant? I reckon that means he won, eh? And to think, we knew him in the early days (meaning yesterday)....

ETA: I think this is funny -- the google ad on his myspace page is for jobs as prison guard.

Does that mean he gets to play Ariel on Broadway?

I think Harvey Feirstein would make a perfect Ursula. Can you imagine him coming out in a shopping cart with the tentacles and says, "Sing for me, my angel, sing for me!" while grabbing his man-boobs?

III

Yup that's him. I spelled his first name wrong. I think they look alike and even talk alike. I don't know if Criss can hit those high notes, though.

I have a good range but mine is in the lower register -- from low, low bass (think Old Man River) to second tenor.

Yes. Yes, I like that very much.

[edit]Well... I didn't mean it like that. I do think he'd be ideal, though...
