Okay, I just have to throw this out there.

I have a lamp in my LR on a side table that has a fringed shade, about 18 inches high, with a green base and a three way bulb. That may mean nothing, but just in case it's pertinent. :D

I also have a Siamese cat, almost eleven, a petite princess who is one of the loves of my life (her brother is the other).

When the lamp is on, she will sit for hours next to the lamp, with her head under the shade, eyes closed, inches from the bulb. She does this at any time of year, cold, hot, nice.

She's at it again.

I love animals, cats are my number one followed by horses (cats being number one because they are easier to house train), have had numerous cats most of my adult life with the pets of choice as a child various rats and mice, not that that matters, perhaps. :tongue

Is it me or is she strange?

Just wondering!

Behind you! Boo.
My cats growing up would do that. She probably likes the heat from the bulb.

My dog sits right next to the fireplace until he's so hot he's about to burst into flames.

Whew, I thought she was starting to take after me, that whole pets and their humans being alike thing.

As for your dog - I'm still cracking up over here!

My mum's cat sometimes goes right up to the gas fire (it's one of those ones with fake coal and flames behind a glass screen) and puts his nose so close to the glass that we have to shoo him away before he's burned. He's nearly ten years old, and it doesn't matter if it's hot, cold or indifferent. Mum has bought him every cat toy on the market, spend an absolute fortune, and his favourite thing to play with is a manky old shoelace from one of dad's work boots.

The female cat Mum has likes to lick plastic carrier bags and sticks her head inside shoes.

I think cats just are weird.

Oh yeah. The head in shoes thing. My ex's feet smelled so bad I should've divorced him for that instead of cheating!

I could never understand why my cat back then could even approach his shoes much less put her head in them.

That must be it, cats are strange.

And her brother loves pizza, green beans, cheddar cheese, and anything that has chili powder as an ingredient.

you martyr and shine.
Cats like light. My cat loves to nap in a sunbeam. To your cat, that lamp may be the equivalent of sunlight. Or, perhaps even better.

My cat is weird. She likes to eat photographs. Does anyone else's cat do that?

Cats' olfactory bulbs in their brain are huge compared to ours. One cat eats olives. Another licks cardboard and photos (pre-digital days) One likes the styrofoam - wow - I have to keep him away or fibreglass forms in the stomach or something bad.

The best one I think was 'Church' who licks the Bengay off my neck and licks the comet from the shower floor while cleaning. Scary cat my uncle Church. He liked you - or he didn't. Period.

Yes, cats are just a little different.

Of all the species of animals on this globe, the one with the strangest behaviors (when viewed by another species) would have to be humans. Classic examples start when we slide out of bed in the morning, and go on non-stop until we crawl back in the evening.

One cat I had ate magazines. That's about the nearest I can think of.

My friend's cat used to regularly put its head in her shoes and give them a thorough sniffing. Once a boyfriend was over, saw this little ritual, and called the kitty over to sniff his shoes too. Kitty stuck her head in his shoe and barfed.

One of mine likes to chew plastic bags. The other one likes to lick dripping faucets. They both like to sniff shoes.

Yes, cats are weird.

One of my cats gnaws on plastic bags. He'll get a mouthful of it and just gnaw...he doesn't eat it, he just chews it. (Yes, we take it away whenever we catch him)

I have 3 female cats and 2 male cats...the two males have a rather intimate relationship. Yes, THAT kind of intimate.

They hunt palmetto bugs as a pack, and actually manage to catch them sometimes...then fight over who gets to eat it.

One of them sniffed my hedgehog (Fluffy), became irate when a spine went into her nose, and promptly swatted Fluffy with her paw...thus resulting in a paw full of spines. She drew back to swat him again, and I separated them...she's a slow learner, and I didn't need Fluffy getting traumatized in the process.

One of my cats completely ignores the presence of our television except under two specific circumstances:

1. The bouncing DVD screensaver. She HAS to attack it.
2. We're watching a porno. Again, she HAS to attack it.

I could go on, but you get the idea. They're WEIRD.

All three of my cats sniff our shoes, can't understand why. My one cat isn't that smart...looking for heat I'm guessing he was sitting next to a candle, and he didn't even realize that his fur was starting to burn.
Another cat is constantly scratching everything (thankfully he's declawed) it's very annoying.

Another thing my cat does is headbutts us in the middle of the night, it's super annoying.
