Well, crud. Evel always used to come by our Harely shop in Las Vegas and spend time with us, spinning yarns and eating caffine pills. Sometimes he would go on for hours with his story-telling when most of us had left. He said that he never regreted retiring early, since he had no wish to add anymore broken bones to his inventory. But he said that he sure wanted to make some "soft landings" with our pretty female staff. He used to sign everybody's tool boxes with a felt pen, even when not asked to do so. he had the most peculiar bent-over walk, and his hips used to fall out of place frequently and creak like an old rusty hinge.

What a character. I guess we loved him, afterall, but not as much as he loved himself. Perhaps he was the greatest daredevil of all times. I tend to think so. I'll remember him fondly, and wish now that I could hear one his last, drawn-out tales, with all the sound effects included.

Tri:cry:

He was, of course, before my time. But I new of him, like everyone did.

It seems, and I'm sorry if this sounds irreverant, out of form that after years of death-defying stunts, he dies in a hospital bed.
I suppose I rather expected him to either live forever or go out with a bang.

Not with a bang but a whimper after all.

Sir, you'll be missed.

Upon hearing the news yesterday about his passing, I jumped over my living room ottoman in tribute.

Rock on, Evel.

The Daily Mirror's headline for this was 'Evel Dead', which chuckled me up for the day!:)

This one marketed to an older crowd never quite took off. No pun intended.

R.I.P. Evel.

You were the reason I would ride my bike down a steep hill in Fairfield CT and jump off into a bush.

Thank you.

Evel Knievel Biography on the History Channel right now.

I love watching everything Evel.

He was a real life superhero. I think that's what it was.

It's just amazing that he lived through all that, especially the failed canyon jump in the rocket. Well, he only failed to make it across, he sure didn't fail to get a lot of publicity out of it.
