ROTFLOL – Have you seen this??? I love it. Be warned -- naughty words used by irrate writer in this video. But I totally love it!

He makes excellent points here, regarding professional writers, and the expectations of getting stuff for free, etc.

I love that interview, and the others I found there. Harlan Ellison is one of the greats, and a marvellous character to boot. I've been reading his books since I was about ten years old.

A slightly dissenting opinion, from this site's registered cynic: Ellison is a fine writer, and great at sound bytes, before the term "sound byte" even existed. But I've always been annoyed by his famous piece of "writer's advice": "Stop writing crap."

Well, duh. Yeah, I'd love to do that. Now, Harlan, come on over and help me do that. Hello, Harlan, buddy, you there? Hello? Hello?

That piece of advice is about as useful as brass chalk.

I'm conflicted. I respect his writing, and I do think he is often hilarious.

I'm still upset about the thing with Connie Willis. There's a line that jesters always cross that maybe they shouldn't cross.

If he grabbed Sumner Redstone's... That'd be funny.

Kansas! Again.
He seems somewhat curmudgeonly. I think the phrase is, "Everything is worth what it's purchaser will pay for it."

Sic 'em Harlan! (Again ... and again ... and again...)

Many an inquiry to waste my time has been terminated with one simple request: pay me.

Amazing how many folks get pea-eyed and flabbergasted when they hear that.

Any professional expects to get paid for their work. Why should a writer be any different? Ellison is blunt, irascible and loud, but he's right.

I added "The Essential Ellison" to my holiday wish list now because of the interview. But, I guess that makes him wrong that interviews don't make for good publicity. Such a paradox!
