I have been sick for over a week and when I think I am getting over it, bam, I can't stop coughing. All the chemists are closed. Homeopathic remedies?

HELP!

Oh and feel free to post kitty pictures just to cheer me up. :)

Kim (cough cough, holds head..oi! this is miserable)

Me too. I usually just stay on the settee wrapped in a duvet on my days off. There's a horrible cold going round at work, even the store manager had it. Lemsip and aspirin and bedrest.

I hope you feel better and stop coughing. I know this won't make you feel any better but.......my daughter got sick three months ago and acquired this horrible cough. The past couple of weeks she's finally stopped coughing. She went to the doctor four times and took all sorts of drugs, but nothing seemed to make the cough go away. She changed doctors and the last one told her there was some terrible funk going around here (Florida) and he'd seen so many people with the cough that would not go away. We now have a red tide hitting us so I'm sure the cough will come back again.

Yeah, do that...good suggestion! It will work, I've done it. Really.

Well, then go get one for her, will ya. 'Cause, until you do, all we've got is this..

I might wander down to the hotel bar and ask for the lemon. I have a kettle in my room.

Are you at a hotel because you sold your house, Casi?

Nope... she's in a hotel 'cause she's in England. ;)

Nothing's more miserable than being sick away from home! You need Vick's Vapo-Rub, some Hall's Mentholyptus, and a concoction of 1 part honey to 1 part lemon juice to one part whiskey.

It really does help the cough... cuts the icky gunk in your throat and lungs... and tastes yummy.

I told you not to kiss me!

My cough is just getting better now that I'm on codeine. But my other behaviors seem to be somewhat erratic. I wonder why.

(p.s. tea and honey seemed to have worked a bit when cough syrup wasn't around...)

What always works for me is echinacea. I had a cold/cough th eother day and it was gone in two days. There's this stuff called Esberitox (http://www.schaper-bruemmer.de/SUB_ICM_EN.NSF/(html)/Frameset_load?OpenDocument&003Products_005Esberitox_001EsberitoxN_000Esberito xNTablets?OpenDocument&AllgNav_dsp?OpenForm&Kat0_root) butI think it's only available in Germany. But I've got some with me. If you can stil manage that meeting on Thursday you'll get some. Meanwhile you can get echinacea teas etc everywhere in UK.

Hope you make a really speedy recovery and we get to meet!

I usually bring my Halls defense with me on any trip. I thought I did but I can't find it in my bags. It has zinc, vitamin c and Echinacea in it. I never stay sick for long.

Had a long night of taking antiflamtories and my inhalor and I managed fitful sleep for 12 hours. Which helped. The hotel owner is going for some Stone's green ginger wine so I can take that with honey and hot water and it helps to stop the coughing and makes you sweat it out.

If not...it's to the doctor for me.

Thanks everyone for your fun posts. Jean Marie you are a hoot!

Oh, Cass... you sure picked a great time to come to the heart of the Empire. I'll bump into someone who's bug-free one week to catch a cold from another person; then after I've recovered from that one I'll catch another from the fellow who was previously fine.

I always get a little anxious when I hear someone cough in a seminar. The student life is not good for your health, especially when you have to commute to campus on the bus every morning. So not only are you at risk of infection from fellow students, but you've also got to consider the locals. It doesn't help that the buses are usually rammed to the rafters, either...

I really can't wait 'til I graduate...

I got seriously sick after three flights -- once to Las Vegas, I was sick the net day and it lasted until a week AFTER I got back. Once to Vancouver, and once to Los Angeles. I felt a shiver while still on the plane, and by the time I landed, I felt really ill already. It was the worst flu I had -- it lasted for five days and I couldn't even get out of bed. I didn't know what my mom gave to me (she used to be a nurse) but I got better the following day.

just woke up from a nap induced from the ginger wine hot toddy. What kills me is that on Saturday, I felt a heck of a lot better. I thought I was finaly getting over this and then bam it turned around and kicked my butt.

Cassiopeia

I'm not sure you will y'know. (and btw, it's the NHS)Well, I just got back from the doctor and the chemist.

Okay, so no one can ever accuse me of doing anything half way. What's wrong with me? Oh...not much...just:

Sinus infection
Both ears inflamed
Throat inflamed
Upper right lung infected
and
They are checking for a kidney infection.

Did I mention in any of this that even my skin hurts? That would be the horrific fevers.

Now, let me just say this, they were VERY kind at the clinic. AND OH MY GOSH the doctor listened to me! What's up with that? Though she did mention to me I probably should have gone in last week.

I didn't want to tell her that in Utah if you go in before two weeks of illness and practically on your death bed they send you home and say if it doesn't clear up in 10 days come back.

Oh and guess what, even though I am not registered there, or here, not sure which it was...they didn't charge me. And get this, I got all my meds for under $40.00. Even with my pharmaceutical card I don't get that much of a break.

*checks that off in favour of England* :)

btw...to everyone who has responded to this childish prank for attention and repped me in spite of it....I lurves you guys. Thanks :)
