What are people's opinions about getting an agent versus just trying to sell your book yourself, sending it to publishers who take unsolicited proposals.
I would imagine that agents try to get your book into larger publishing houses who will probably pay you more and give you better exposure but also take a cut of your money?
What are people's experiences and preferences? I was thinking about sending my proposals to agents instead of publishing houses and was just looking for a little advice (this is partially because I know what publishing house I want and they don't take unsolicited proposals).
