Nice piece, showing a lot of empathy. In the comments someone mentioned reading Miss Snark (who had a rather different tone But the funny thing is, I recall that Janet Reid was one of the candidates in the periodic "guess-Miss Snark's identity"game. Sure seems unlikely, after reading this!

On the contrary--it seems VERY likely! I'd be absolutely shocked if Janet Reid were NOT Miss Snark. Everything points to it if you do a bit of sleuthing, regardless of who tries to throw you off her scent.

Janet Reid sent me a very nice rejection. I knew she didn't really work with my genre, but I would have loved to work with her anyway.

Put me in the camp of those who firmly believe that Janet Reid IS Miss Snark. MS was a different tone because it was anonymous, which was the point. But the good intentions behind MS are still present. Janet Reid isn't just an awesome agent, she's a rock star of a human being as well.

And here's where the second part of bravery comes in.
You don't collapse into tears.
You don't give up.
You go home and you look at those notes and you remember that you want to write, and you want to be published and no one, not even a snotty New York agent dressed in black is going to stand in your way.
You start in again.
