I just got in from freezing me toots off. I found Comet Holmes, a barely naked eye comet. Way cool.

Well, you are in the southeast so it'll be about 30 degrees up in the sky (four fists) in the constellation Perseus. Or find the pleiades and draw a line to the left and it'll be just above that.
It should be plenty far above the trees.
