Sounds very old-fashioned to me. In the typewriter era pica was 12 point and elite was 10 point, but those were non-proportional fonts for typewriters. 12 point courier would be the closest to pica these days, I suppose.

Elite and pica are typewriter terms. So I guess you're just have to find an electric typewriter for that. ;)

Just use Courier.

I have fond memories of Pica.

Of course, they're from a REALLY LONG TIME AGO. So that's very weird... :)

I dunno - before the Macintosh (which originally used city names for its fonts!) and MS Windows became popular, "letter quality" computer printers generally only had choices of Pica or Elite for the typewheel or typeball, so even up to then the font names were a holdover from typewriters rather than from printing/typesetting. Maybe he thinks "My guidelines were fine 25 years ago, no reason to change them now."

Although I would still really recommend you send it in Courier, I found a Pica type font. For whatever that's worth.
