NaNo WordCount Widgets

Well, there's the one I'm using right now.

There's another at the site BenPaced has linked to on his signature, if you want to check that out. Other than that, I haven't found any other widgets.

I am using that one too.

I think it only updates daily or something like that.

The same site also has a bar and you can customize how long it is.

And look! This bar does update itself, but it takes a little while.

Uh, it was supposed to be an image. I'll try and fix it.

this all look entirely too complicated for me, so I'll just stick with using the word counter in OpenOffice and then manually updating under the Author Info.

That's handy. I might experiment with it, to see if I like it.

If someone were to build a word count widget for you (the generic you), what would it look like? What features and functionality would it have? Please be as detailed and specific as possible.

Also, do you want a web-based widget where you go to a site and enter in your details & progress or do you want something desktop based?


I've mentioned this to Fahim, and while he is not committed, he is considering the option of possibly creating one or two.

Something web based, like a Dashboard widget for Apple, would be fine.

all I ask is something easily updated and easily read. Any widget I use has to go on several forums, my blog, my websites, et cetera. Just something simple--a progress bar would be lovely, especially if it was fun.

Last year and the year before I had ones that had the graph that showed your progress. It updated pretty quickly too. I loved watching the growth on it, especially for days where I did a lot.

What kind of a graph are you looking for? Are you talking about something like a bar graph that shows total word counts each day?
