I cant, for the life of me, figure out how to get my wordcount going. Where do I upload to? I cant upload anything to my "excerpts" because I still have the page with the coffee stain on it.

up in the top right corner of the home page there is an "edit profile" link.
go there and click the tab "author info"

At this point, there is no uploading of text. There is, however, a field where you type in your numerical word count value.

The "breaking news" archives on the NaNo site has this about uploading text for auto word-count updates
You can copy an excerpt into the coffee-stain page, or at least you could last night. You get there the same way you do to update the wordcount manually, under Edit Profile > Author Info.
