My brain has died. I can usually think of these things on my own. Can someone please help me think of this word?

Quote:

He hoped to bring as many clothes that would fit, which meant I was [delegated] to one suitcase, instead of two like I'd normally use.

relegated?
'forced to use' is the idea but I know there's a word for this!

Please relieve my pain. Thank you.

Relegated sounds right to me.

I'd probably write:

He hoped to bring as many clothes that would fit, which meant I was left with just one suitcase instead of the two I'd normally use.

I was limited to one suitcase. That's a good one too.

relegated. And "as would fit" rather than "that would fit".

;)

Ok, thanks everyone. I'll keep relegated then. I want to show it was not my decision to only use one suitcase; he used FIVE if you can believe it!

What about confined?

Nah. Sounds like you were locked in the suitcase personally.

It would be relegated or restricted. Either way, though, the sentence is kind of passive.

Yeah, the entire chapter is going to get some hefty reworking, but you know how it is when that one word won't leave you alone. :) I will keep the word, though, so thanks for the input.
