Anyone interested in one for November? I can organise it this time (I bet it's my turn).

Oh heck, why not! Just because I've got the novel and blogging thingys, as well as the flash fiction carnival, I ought to be able to do this as well.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee! ! !

Can I ask...what is a blogchain?

wordsmyth
10-25-2007, 06:15 PM
As much as I want to join this one, I am suddenly swamped with opportunities regarding book reviews and query ideas. I'm gonna have to sit this one out.

I'll be reading what y'all write, though. :D

Can I ask...what is a blogchain?

A blogchain is an event in which a bunch of bloggers organize themselves into a group that creates a series of related blogposts. The first person in the chain reads the last entry from the previous chain, finds an element/topic in that post that they wish to expound upon in a brand new freshly typed post of their own, they post their new essay and then the next person in the chain reads it and finds something in it that they wish to expound upon and so on and so on and so on.....

But probably someone else can explain it better than I.

PS They are addictive.

Awesome. Thanks. Sounds interesting. I think I'm going to have to be an observer first before I jump in the ring, though, just to be safe!

DD, if you look at Blogchain #11 (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1657981&postcount=1) you'll get a good idea. That way you won't have to sit out #12. I'd be too superstitious to begin with blogchain #13...

Mwah ha ha ha ha ha!

Gillian
10-26-2007, 06:43 AM
Going to sleep at night means that everyone else does the work. I'll keep it open a few more days, so that the people who check in just once a week don't miss out.

Donna Duck, I can put you near the bottom of the list if you want, so that you get to observe a bunch before having to do anything. Would that be a happy solution?

DonnaDuck
10-26-2007, 08:13 PM
I think I can do that. Go ahead and add my name but yeah, towards the bottom. I just don't get the coding stuff.

DonnaDuck
10-30-2007, 03:56 AM
So do we have a date for this to start? Once it starts going, does the last person "tag" the next person? Do we have a set amount of time to do our entry?

Gillian
10-30-2007, 05:16 AM
I'll put up a list (with the code so you can simply cut it and paste into your blog) on 1 November. We go through in order of the list. When someone finishes, they PM the next person and let us know (here) what the permanent link for their post is. There's no set timeframe, but sooner is better (and if you think you might take more than a couple of days, let me know and I'll rearrange the schedule).

The code is the only thing I don't get. Code for what and where do I put it?

Gillian
10-31-2007, 09:54 AM
You simply cut it from my post here and paste it in your blog. But I haven't done the post yet (I've been working 12 hour days all this week - I will get time tomorrow, promise), so please stop worrying. It worries me when people worry :).

I don't know if I can create one of those boxes that tell the AW Board not to read the html, but I'll try. Tomorrow.

Gillian
11-01-2007, 03:39 PM
This is so you can check that I've got everyone there and that you're happy with the way I've described you and that I've linked to the right blog (Talia, I'm especially unsure about yours, since it's changed so much from last time I was in a blogchain with you). While you check that, I'll try to find out how to post the same list in code, so you can just copy that code and paste it in an entry on your blog. I thought I knew how, but it turns out that was for another program entirely.

We have space for a few more people if you're still thinking about it. You'd better be quick, though!

Can I have all answers by 2 November. Weather means I have to go offline from time to time and computer life goes into slow motion, but Virginia Lee - you can start whenever you want ie we don't have to wait for this list to look perfect before we begin. Any newcomers will go on the end.

And next time I volunteer? Remind me to check my diary first - I should have chosen a less busy time. I have 2 new courses starting this week...

DonnaDuck
11-05-2007, 07:45 PM
Just a quick question...how do we tag the next person? Via blog or pm? I ask because I'm not familiar with everyone's blogs so I don't know who's blog goes with which screen name and so on. I guess I can just try to match them up by who's already posted in the thread...Ok, I think I can do that...don't mind my babbling...

valeenc
11-06-2007, 04:09 AM
You PM them, DD. When I did my first blogchain, I was slated to go first and when I was done I posted in the chain's thread and totally didn't PM the next person. Cath realized I hadn't done so, however, and kept the chain going even though the noob had screwed up.

The AW nickname of the person after you is madderblue. Her blog is Kappa no He.

It's apparently fine in my post, Kat. I have no idea why, but the link works okay. I just tested it. It is just so strange for me to have something like that work correctly. I'm still correcting links in old posts as I find them so I really am amazed I got your link right somehow.

Virginia, that is really strange. I don't know why it is right on yours and not on anyone else's. Yours was the only one I forgot to check.. LOL.. I got sucked into actually reading some of your posts and forgot why I was there... heehee.. guess that says good things about your blog!

My blog shows up in Shauna's blog, but the hyperlink doesn't work. It goes right back to her blog.

It is definitely wrong in the Waterfront, and also Gillian's blog.. Oh well, hopefully we'll get it all worked out. Thanks for checking your blog! :Hug2:

This was so much fun. I just LOVE participating in blog chains.

I always comment, Kat. For me it's courtesy and fun because it's how I find new and wonderful blogs to travel to and through. Also it's interesting to see how people link their posts.

I don't recall going back and doing the permalinks, however. That is a good idea though. Who's going to do the coding? :D

Gillian
11-14-2007, 01:04 AM
it's more fun to comment and more courteous. The fixing your post so the permalink is there is for readers to be able to find the right post, especially once it has scrolled off the front page. I mostly forget do it in the first few days, but I always fix it eventually.

OK - I'm caught up on comments as well. I'm going to fix my links too.

For anyone else who needs it, here is the new code with the permalinks. Just go in to your post and replace the original code for the participants with the code below. Also - I added on the AWChain tag for technorati. This allows people to search technorati for any AWChains tags and come up with all our posts. :) It was a blast, once again. I'm looking forward to the December blog chain. GREAT FUN!
