My dad has to go for exploratory heart surgery today, so I won't be here much. Just wanted to let you know so you didn't think I was actually off, y'know, writing or anything. Heaven forbid!

He should be fine-- but I want to be with him. I'll check in tonight to let y'all know.

:Hug2: Nice to have people who care. Dad failed his "stress test" and has to have the ticker checked out. He seems pretty calm about it, but that's likely the ole' "I am DAD! I have no fear!" thing. Told me, "I know you're busy... you don't have to come," but didn't argue one bit when I said, "Quit being ridiculous. Of course I'm coming."

Jenna,

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad. I know things will turn out fine, but you are doing a wonderful thing being there with him. From personal experience, with a disabled husband, who has spent the last three years in the hospital off and on, including the entire month of January last year,
it is extremely important to have an advocate when you are in the hospital.

Hugs,
Chacounne

Jenna,

You shoulda checked with Frank and me. We both had catherizations a few months ago. Frank, the show-off, went a bit further and got a stent put in.

My thalium stress test was also positive, but it turned out to be a false positive.

Good luck

Jenna,
I'll keep you, your Dad, and your family in my thoughts today. Cardiac Caths save lives everyday (in fact my Dad had one a year and a half ago). Your Dad should be back to his old self (and eating better or else you'll need to flog him--repeatedly) in no time.

Love you guys and gals!

Prayers worked. My dad's A-OK!

Just checking in quick-like to let you know. No blocked arteries. They don't know why he's having chest pain, his rhythms are all screwed up (PVCs and PACs), but his heart isn't damaged. Very big relief for all of us. He's still there resting.

Rich:

>>Frank, the show-off

I know. Frank sent me a picture of his wounds. A PICTURE! It was DISGUSTING!

I did have the decency not to work any of my PhotoShop magic on it, though. For now.

Didn't know you went through that stuff too, though. Glad you're OK!

Glad to hear preliminary results were good Jenna.

About that pic...a "friend" of mine did Photoshop it. Without going into a whole lot of detail I'll just say it involved a garter belt and stockings.

I've been plotting my revenge for months....

I'm glad to hear that his arteries look good! :snoopy:
As far as the PVC's and PAC's, Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome can cause similar symptoms, as can too much caffeine, high stress, or issues with his internal "pacemaker". The good news is that most times diet, medication and lifestyle changes can work wonders. Better news is that you are in an area where some of the best physicians in the world practice.
I'll keep all of you in my thoughts. Please email me if you need anything.

Jenna,

I'm glad your dad is doing all right. And its good that your there for your dad. I mean my father had a minor heartache and didn't even tell me. Can you believe that? And then he turns around and claims I don't care about his well-being. Of course I do, but it's hard to show concern when you don't know what's going on. Fathers can be hardheaded sometimes. It can be frustrating. But I am glad yours is going to be ok.

Hi Jenna,

Glad your father's procedure went well and the news is good. Hospital procedures/surgeries are very stressful on the family as much as the patient. And I feel that way based on my past experiences in nursing as well as having had close family members undergo major surgeries. So I can relate. Positive thoughts for you and yours.......

Didn't see your second post Jenna. Aortic aneurysms are serious, no doubt, but the fact that the condition has been detected early and is being attended to immediately is a very good thing. Technology is so advanced and amazing things can be done today. I will keep your father in my prayers and thoughts for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

So far so good. They injected something into the aneurysm to make it clot and are hoping it'll just sort of get re-absorbed by the body. Sounds weird to me, but the docs seem pleased and my dad's OK. I think this is a "wait and see" game.

I've been hanging around here to get my mind off things. But things are looking good. Before they found the aneurysm, he had a lot of weird burning and bleeding under the skin-- it turned out the aneurysm was pressing on a nerve. That's already gone now-- a good sign. It's just a good thing he kept bugging the doc. Originally, the doc kept telling him to "give it a few days" to see if the burning/pain/bleeding/etc. went away. Weenie. What he should have said was, "Come right in and I'll check it out." It appears that when he did the original surgery, he poked all the way through an artery, which is what caused the aneurysm.

He got a much nicer and more attentive doc for the second procedure.

Chac, it's definitely time for humor. My last words to my dad before he went in this time were, "Don't die and I'll bring you pizza." He didn't... and I did.

awatkins
02-24-2005, 09:46 PM
Good for your dad, Jenna! Too many times people just accept what they are told and don't stick up for themselves, even when they realize that things ain't exactly what they're supposed to be. Isn't the attitude change in the doc interesting.

Hope all continues to go well. Promise him more pizza. :)
