Ever wonder how much time you've actually spent on a WIP? I just discovered that in Microsoft Word, under the File menu, under Properties and on the Statistics tab, it tells you how much actual time you've spent editing a document. In minutes, no less.

It's a little depressing seeing how much (or how little) time I've spent in front of certain works, and what I have to show for it...

Wow! How interesting, thanks for telling us! Now, I wonder if it counts the time when the file's minimized and you're off doing whatever else/wasting time on the internet(researching, of course!) :D

Cool!

12,373 minutes. Is that good?

Oh, right, it doesn't matter. Whether the novel's good is what matters. Damn, had me going for a minute there!

Damn. So all this time I've had the document open and I've been surfing the net, the bugger's been tracking me?

Time to get to work then, I guess.

OKay, but does it keep counting minutes when I tab over to Firefox and check up on AW, post a few snide comments, check the news on cnn.com, check my email,...

"Gee, you mean it took six hours for me to write these two paragraphs?"

It doesn't mean as much as you might think it does. If you left the document open all day, it would record all that time as being revised even if you weren't working on it at all. Every time you hit the Save button, it's a new revision. Plus, if you resave a document to pick up the formatting, you inherit the properties of the previous document.

Holy crow.

I kind of wonder how I managed to fit a day job in this past year. -And I definitely won't be quitting it any time soon.

I need a cigarette now.
