I need a way to get me jumpstarted on my goals again. I've just been coasting along doing very little.

So....

Does anyone want to voluteer to ask me tomorrow if I got 5 pages written? Or 3? Or any?

Around 10:00 pm Central time would be good. *s*

Well, Jen--

So, did you get those pages written? Huh? Don't make me get Barb over here. :Lecture:

You better be working on them right now, Jen. Don't be procrastinating like me...lol I'm gonna check back around 10. You better have them done.

I have 4 pages written, plus still the two lines in longhand, which are (accidentally) unrelated to the four pages.

I guess you get an "A" for effort but you should have five pages down. By now, you probably do. Good Job! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/18/18_1_107v.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm867BBUS)

I figure what with the transcription I also did yesterday, I did good to get the four pages. I've got to find a way to get rid of the mind-mushyness that comes after a full day of transcription.

Hi Jyndral,

Have you ever tried Morning Pages? There's a book called The Artists Way that really promotes them as fantastic tools for writers (I must admit I've read nothing beyond the paragraphs about the Morning Pages).

Anyway, the idea is to writer x number of pages the very first thing when you wake up. Before coffee, before turning on the computer, before transcriptions, before anything. It's easier said than done, but I've been doing it for about two months now and nothing bugs me more than NOT writing them!

I highly recommend giving it a try.

I did morning pages for a little over a year. They had the opposite effect on me, I think. Instead of making it where I could write, it got me into the mindset of "Well, I did my three pages. I'm done with writing for the day."

It wasn't conscious. But that's what it did for me. So I quit doing morning pages. It works for some people, I'll grant that. But apparently I'm not one of them.

well Jen if you need someone to check you status on a daily basis, I don't mind doing it. I know how hard it can be to motivate yourself to write everyday.

What a bummer. Hopefully you'll find the motivation you need...maybe sthrnwriter will have you writing 50 pages a day! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

In the interest of making my workspace more writing-friendly, by the first of the month, I will no longer be doing transcription from home. Everything related to that will be moved to my Mom's office, where I will also work. (At least until I can finally make a complete break from transcription - ultimate goal!)

I'm hoping that will make a difference.

Well...

Truthfully, none so far today. I ended up having to help Mom out & work with her so I only got to get some sketchy notes done. Haven't been home long enough to do anything with them yet.

It's been tolerable today so far, so I've done the transcription I needed to get done/finished. I'm caught up enough that I can take the rest of the day off for "President's Day" and hopefully get some writing done.

Lunch is first on the agenda though.

Jen, I've got the same problem so I'm going get my arse in gear and start writing in 22 minutes (7pm.) Barring a half-hour break for dinner, I'm going to carry on writing until I can't keep my eyes open.

I don't know how much I'm going to get done, but whatever it is, I'm going to check up on you tomorrow morning and I expect you to have done more.

Yesterday, I got half a page done after transcription was finished. Then I went to lunch with my parents since they were both off because of President's Day. Then I went to the doctor because I could barely move because of my back. Well, sciatica and a pain pill later, I didn't get anything else done. THat's how today is looking too -- the nothing done part -- but hopefully that will change.

Ah. Right, well you see the thing is, I clicked 'submit reply' and got the site-down message so I didn't think it posted. So I watched TV instead.

Um... I didn't do any work last night. http://www.geocities.com/thingumybobwotsit/uhoh2.gif
I watched The Grudge instead. I liked it, but it was a bit scary.

EDIT: Oh, I'm not going to get much done tonight either, cos Desperate Housewives is on at 10.

I did enjoy The Ring, but it did that annoying thing that horror films tend to do, which is to start out scary and become gradually less so as they go on. You know when the characters all find out what's going on and the film turns immediately from creepy chiller to absurd race-against-time thriller before everyone lives happily ever after? Pah.

Whereas The Grudge, to me at least, managed to be a creepy chiller from start to finish. Plus it pulled off the magnificent feat of throwing in every single horror cliche in the book and getting away with it.

I think the only reason why I liked The Ring was cuz the storline was different from other horror movies. Yeah but the way the storyline was carried out was like all the others which is why I liked The Grudge.

Joanne, I wrote about 2 and a half pages today. So I got some writing done.

I'm definitely getting on with some writing tonight. I've had long, exhausting callouts for the last three days but I'm not too tired now and I haven't got to get up tomorrow so I reckon I'm in for the long haul. I have got to have some dinner and watch Eastenders though. Target: 2500 words.

Oooops. I hadn't banked on Vanishing Point being on.http://www.geocities.com/thingumybobwotsit/uhoh2.gif My attention span isn't strong enough to handle such eventualities.
However, I had a nice long bath this morning and worked out a whole load of plot problems so it ain't all bad.
Target, therefore, carried forward to tonight.

I'm going to be out of town tomorrow and Sunday, maybe part of Monday too, but I'm taking a notebook and another short-story idea to start on. I can edit/revise/add to "Marathon" and work on a new one and that keeps both my inner editor and muse (for lack of a better word) happy. :)
