Would you write about absolutely anything?

If the money was right, would you tackle any writing subject, whether you were in agreement with its goals or not?

Suppose you had the opportunity to write in praise of some product you didn't like. Or suppose you were offered a position writing puff material about a celebrity you found obnoxious. What if someone offered you a job promoting a social or political issue that you opposed?

Let's say you needed the money. Would you take the job?

(Yes, I'm thinking of the W-word.)

Write

I'll write anything I can tell the truth about.

If I'm interested, I'll write about all sorts of things, even if no one else is wildly interested.

If the money was good enough? I dunno. The nice thing is, no one's going to offer me a large sum of money to write a book on Animal Husbandry, just to pick a subject I am wildly disinterested in. There are people they would ask before me. So the subjects I would really not care to write about...I probably won't have to. It balances out.

The W-word? I'm not sure what wine-weakened weasels have to do with this, but I'd have to say no.

You couldn't pay me enough to extol the virtues of child pornography, for instance. Nor could you pay me enough to write about the importance of bellybutton lint in aardvarks. I'd write about something that I was remotely interested in, or personally believed in. I would not write about something that would kill me with boredom, nor something I find personally reprehensible.

You could pay me enough to write about something I found uninteresting. 1000 words on belly-button lint? Sure, for the right price.

But you couldn't pay me enough to write about something I found morally repugnant. 10 Ways to Beat Your Spouse ? No. I wouldn't take on the project.

So I guess my answer is boring or stupid topics? Yes. Offensive topics? No.

My brain doesn't work like that. I could *want* the money, I could supress my morals, but making myself write something I'm not passionate about? Couldn't do it. Instant brain block.

Yes, I do have issues with school papers.

Maybe I should clarify. 1000 words on something boring? Oh, heck yeah. {Right now I'm in a novel frame of mind, so I was thinking book-length projects.}

If anyone needs an 1000 words - heck, 2500 words - on belly button lint, call me!

:D

What Soccer Mom said. In fact, I make my living writing about stuff that bores me. And yes, they pay me well. They have to!

I'm saying yes, I could write about anything but that does only apply to fiction. I'm not a non-fiction writer so that doesn't apply to me.

For fiction, I'll tackle anything even if I find it revolting. If I can do it truthfully and intelligently, anything goes.

As such, my next book with be about buggering your kids while shooting your pets and reading the Daily Mail.

The OP didn't ask if you'd accept money to be bored. They asked if you'd accept money to write positively about something you are against, such as if you're a Republican would you write about how wonderful a President Hillary would make? Or if you're a conservationist, would you write an article about what a sham global warming is? Here, here's something many of you could relate to, would any of you accept money to write an article about the genious of Dan Brown?

10 Ways to Beat Your Spouse:

1. Learn to play checkers better.
2. Tie a concrete block around your spouse's waist shortly before the big race.
...
10. Shout "I win! I win!" over and over until your spouse concedes.

Depends on how badly I needed the money. When I was stuck in the Middle East, for instance, without enough money to pay for my immigration fees to Canada, I would have done almost anything to raise the necessary funds. If my life or my future depended on that money, I'd write an article on why women should not be allowed to work or why Eragon is the bestest fantasy novel ever.

Could I? Yes.

Would I? Depends how much I needed the money. But truth be told, even then, probably not, because it becomes a terrible albatros around your neck, and I knwo from experience, that morbid dread I feel everytime I sit down to work THAT project, I die a little inside. And inevitably that comes through the writing.

Life's to short.

And money has never been a major draw for me to do anything anyways.

Well, I would find it interesting to write about a topic I don't agree with or that I find repulsive. Just to prove to myself that I can.

i used to think i would. then i was asked to do an article on a certain career...i accepted the article...not knowing anything about the subject ahead of time. i was bored out of my tree. now i consider the content first. if it is something that interests me, or i can imagine it interesting me, i will tackle it. if not, i just say thanks anyway, but...

Yeah, I'd probably do anything for the right amount of money. But if it was something I find morally repugnant, it had better be a hell of a lot of money.
