View Full Version : OK, Who do I blame?

JenNipps

It has to be somebody's fault. I need to be doing transcription so I can work on one (or more) of those ideas I got yesterday this afternoon. Instead, I'm here.

Who do I blame?

*looks around for a scapegoat*

Oh, yeah.... That would be me, wouldn't it?

OK, I'll get back to work.

Oddness....

The disappearing smiley doesn't show up.....

I know what you mean. I am supposed to be writing right now.

By the way, does anyone know what the line inside the red triangle means? I keep seeing it under people's names under the green thing. Now I will disappear. :Disappear

Jen, did you try the pull-down menu?

I know, I should be working, too....

Can't get it to work, either!! Dang.

I'm pretty sure it's Jenna's fault, for making this place so cool! And everyone is so busy posting that I can hardly keep up, what with trying to work and everything. I need a text only page so the boss won't know I'm surfing...

Cindy

PS--smilies are case sensitive, I believe.

guess THAT won't do it....

line inside the red triangle
That's supposed to be an exclamation mark inside that red triangle. Anyhoo, if you hover over it, you should see a popup explaining what it is (most icons and buttons should show a popup text explanation when you hover over them). This red triangle is an option to report a bad post if you feel someone has stepped out of bounds.

I recommend that folks give it careful consideration before using it, as it sends a report to the mods and can damage someone's reputation if undeserved. With that said, if you do feel a post is way out of line and deserves to be reported, you can use it.

I didn't want to use it, I just wondered what it was. When I hover over it, nothing happens, but I see you can click on it and something happens. Believe me, I don't want to give anyone a bad report. If I clicked on it, it was just to see what it was for. I notice that some posts don't have the icon at all. Ohhh. It's hard being new in town.

We're all getting used to things here. Thank goodness I like checking stuff out. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

When you have a little time, click on the FAQ link at the upper left. There's great info in there about all the little doodads.

There need to be two colons. But it's wrong in the list, so it won't work. :(

It's where you can report bad posts, like if it's spam or whatever.

Jen, did you try the pull-down menu?

I know, I should be working, too....

:Disappear

Yup. I tried the pulldown, typing it out myself, typing it with a little d as opposed to a capital, typing it with one colon, and typing it with two. It all ends up like that (at least, for me).

Hmmm......

I'll try again....

:disappear:

(THough right now, I'm on my lunch break, so I guess it doesn't really matter if I got back to work until another 20 minutes or not. lol. I did get some work done after my first & second posts in this thread.)

Testing....
http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/emoteDisappear.gif

Worked when I selected it from the list. In the 'show all smilies' window, it shows as a colon, followed by the word Disappear with a capitol D.

:disappear
:Disappear

It definitely seems to be case sensitive, but doesn't want to work when I type it in manually. Very odd. Trying the same two possibilities, but with an ending colon....

:disappear:
:Disappear:

Nope. Same result. One more time adding it from the pull-down list....

http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/emoteDisappear.gif

...and it works. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif

Looks like this one is a bit finicky.

hmmm--CC, doesn't work for me off the pull-down, either. It shows up fine before I submit the post, then changes, in the translation.

I kill me!

But seriously, folks, we'll have to look into that one. It definitely falls under the category of "glitch."

I know the feeling. But instead of writing, I've been getting ready to go to an Avon meeting. Fun. lol.

(Actually, they are usually fun.)

OK, now, just out of curousity... Where in Oklahoma are you?

And maybe I'll be one of the locals soon. *pout* lol.

Well, then, howdy, almost-neighbor. lol.

I live in McAlester and make it to Tulsa from time to time, though most usually the farthest I go that way is to Muskogee. :)

McAlester, I've never heard of but I have heard of Muskogee. I'm still a newbie here in Oklahoma.

McAlester is about another hour south of Muskogee on highway 69. You have to go through part of Eufaula to get to us. :)

I grew up in Ada (still another hour away, though more west than south) and I have to say I like McAlester better. It's a prettier part of the state, for one.

I guess I'm just rambling. It's time to call it a night, methinks.

Cate, I hope we wont have to do an intervention, hehe. Then again, if we do one for you, then they will have to do one for me. Hmmmm...I'll have to quit rambling and think on this one. It's going to be a long night. I'm gonna need some :Coffee:

So far living in Oklahoma has been ok, but I do miss my hometown. I've always prefered living in rural than urban. Just more peaceful. Eufaula sounds familiar. I may have drove through there to get to here. I don't know it was a long drive

I spent a summer in Oklahoma on my uncle's "farm" when I was 12ish, in the early 70s. It was in Kansas, Oklahoma, near Arkansas. We were in the Ozarks and the countryside was absolutely beautiful -- rolling hills, green meadows, lots of trees. Everyday we swam in a creek of sparkling clear water.

Coming from the SF Bay Area, it was very weird to go months at a time and see no people who weren't white. I'll bet that's not the case anymore. But I'll bet they still have editorials on the evening news about those *crazy* Californians.
