How do I pitch a completed work?

I've nearly finished writing a self-help book. Should I pitch it to agents as a "proposal" or more like I would fiction?

You'd approach the agent according to their guidelines - usually with a query/proposal. Simply mention that the book is finished and that all or part of it is available upon request.
