I got a sunburn a week ago and now I'm peeling like crazy. Long cellophane strips that sound like packing tape. I LOVE peeling!

veinglory

Would that be cannibalism?

writerterri

Sort of.

I usually have to roll the skin up like a cigar but then it I get a craving for stuffed cabbage or grape leaves. The skin is good for that as well.

Yum

If I'm gonna get a sunburn, peeling is very fun. But I sunburn easily & badly, & it makes my allergies go haywire (I don't know why), & I had melanoma once, so I prefer not to burn at all.

I had a melanoma scare that turn out to be something lower grade, but yes--SPF 30 for me too.

Yeah, I had a scare, too. Turned out to be an oddly-shaped grey freckle. GREY. It looked like somebody took a marker and drew a short line on my neck, hence the freak-out. A. GREY. FRECKLE.

I used to love peeling when I was a kid, and would compete with my brother to get the longest, fattest strip of skin... But now that I'm a real snake, I find it rather a hassssssssle.

That's as bad as me having a freckle that has a white ring around it, then when I get in the sun too long it turns PINK!

Mine was level 0. In situ, which was cool. Still cost me over $7,000 out of pocket (crappy insurance). But I do have a neat scar to show for it. :D

Um...pass the skin condom, please.

Mine was level 4, which I guess is the highest. But they removed it, & I'm fine. Very lucky.

I don't even know what to look for.

It's as easy as A B C (http://www.afraidtoask.com/skinCA/skinwarning.html).

Seriously, kids. It ain't something you want to deal with. It's deadly. And you can avoid it. And if you get it, and it's early enough, you can fix it. Please stay the hell out of the tanning booths. And wear sunscreen when you are gonna be outside for a period of time.

Sorry Ferret. For what it's worth, I used to enjoy the peeling too.

We once ate the skin of a friend who was peeling. Turns out, it doesn't taste much but people throw up when they realize what's in your mouth :D

I also want to add... Get your skin checked at least once/year! Twice if you've had skin cancer! Yes Ray, you too! My daughter had an iffy mole that needed a second analysis and she is only three and we keep her out of the sun, heck we live in a cloudy rainy area! Everyone needs to get an annual skin exam.
(this public service announcement brought to you by Turkey.)

Oh.. BTW, I used to go boarding in the ocean a lot when I was a kid and liked to peel. NOT ANY MORE THOUGH! Now I am a pasty white gal!

I remember peeling. And I remember the doctor telling me I had a melanoma about ten years later. Yuk! Never again!

Sadly, I seldom peel. I just have to look at the sun and I turn brown. It never burns me, dammit!

Pardon me in advance for this comment that is going to offend someone, somewhere, somehow, and earn me a tongue lashing, but...

I can't get good strips today, but I can rub my hands on my chest real fast and make it snow.

That's not snow... just dried milk.

So I can stop wearing the lactation pads? They do make me look kinda stupid.

Yea, I've had a mole for thirteen years that is about a 3/4 inch wide and 1/4 inch high. I want to go in for a check on it, especially since my grandmother just got skin cancer (It wasn't an issue, it was non-malignent and no problem, but since she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer eight months later, I'm really freaking out on the cancer front.)
