Hi, all:

I'm a freelance writer who's just opened a new blog dedicated to independent comics. The blog will include reviews of independent comics a and graphic novels, of course, but I'm also looking for news and comments from the artists and writers who are either working in independent comics or who are striving to do so.

I was wondering if anyone on this board would like to speak to me about their own comics work, recommend graphic novels and comics for me to review or point me toward their favorite up-and-coming creators in the industry. You can find my blog online at the fiction and culture site www.firefox.org. You can reach my posts by either clicking on my name, "Dan Rafter," in the author section of the opening page or by clicking on the "comics and graphic novels" tag on the same page.

I plan on updating the site two to three times a week. I just opened the site two days ago, so I only have two posts so far.

If you have any suggestions or recommendations, please send me an e-mail message at [email protected].

Thanks again,
Dan Rafter

Could you give me an idea of how far down the rabbit hole you are into comics? I don't want to lead you to the obvious stuff if you are already aware of it.

I know a lot of the obscure stuff.

Also -are you more interested in print or webcomics?

Hi, Derrick:

Thanks for your message. I am an avid reader of graphic novels, so I am looking for the more obscure stuff. Whatever suggestions you have, I'm open for. Also, I'm interested in both Web comics and print.

Thanks again,
Dan

I'll start you off with some webcomics:

Some of these are pretty obscure.

http://www.lackadaisycats.com/
http://xkcd.com/
http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/
http://www.dresdencodak.com/
http://www.rice-boy.com/
http://www.banishedonline.com/
http://countyoursheep.com/
http://graphiteplayground.com/

That should get you started. Tell me which ones you like and maybe I can point out some printed ones or rather just tell me which recent reads you really digged.

Also -be sure to check out my webcomic: I just started two months ago and any constructive criticism is a great help.

A Divine Dramedy I've heard of. Met the creator on another forum. I have my own comics in my sig and the project I'm working on is getting my graphic novel version (volume 1 of 5) fixed up and sent to a different printer than what I've got now. Only snags are getting it just right so it doesn't look awkward for print. And being busy with school.

Thanks for replying. I appreciate it. I'll take a look at the Web comics this weekend. I admit I haven't read too many of them, but I do believe that this is a big part of the future of comics. The ability for creators to publish on the Web is amazing, and I'm hoping it leads to some amazing things.
