What does this mean?

I noticed a lot of books that have this:

First Edition 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3

I understand what a first edition is, but what do the numbers after it signify?

The line of numbers refers to the print run--the smallest number is the printing the book in your hand came from. In your example, it came from the third.

EDITED TO ADD: Yeah, Scarlet is right--if I hadn't taken the time to look up the link, I'd have beaten her to it and wouldn't look silly for the echo. :D
