Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers is the best book I've ever read. Very tear jerking. It is a Christian/Historical Romance.

I just finished The Kite Runner, excellent tear jerker.

The Magic Toyshop, or just get her a copy of Burning your Boats (both by Angela Carter).

Jodi Picoult is WONDERFUL. I also highly recommend "Pieces of My Sister's Life" by Joy Elizabeth Arnold if you need a suggestion for Christmas.
