Tampa played pretty well last Sunday. Now the week before, they really sucked.

The Panthers getting spanked by the Texans, at home, was a sucktacular failure on their part.

GO DENVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love, love, love that the Chiefs and the Raiders are 0-2 and the high-powered Chargers offense seems to be losing some of its momentum!

Though I think the Broncos might be cursed. In the past year, 2 Broncos players have died, 1 49er player died at the Broncos stadium, and now the poor Bills player is paralyzed :( (And Plummer's career died there too)

Real men Wear Black (note the avatar t-shirt :-) ), but apparently, they don;t win football games the first two games of the season. The Raiders got close Sunday, but Mike Ratnahan managed to flummox Lane Kiffen with some Shenanigans at the end. Given Josh McKown played that game with a broken finger on his throwing hand, not a bad finish, give that the Broncos are to be an elite AFC team.

Go Raiders!

I still don't know what you are referring to? Isn't a patriot someone who digs their country?

A Patriot is someone who will win the SuperBowl this season.

So far they've played two of last year's playoff teams and demolished them by identical 38-14 scores. And this was with three of their best players - Harrison, Seymour, and Brown - out of action.

Anyone who thinks they achieved their success via subterfuge should review the video (ahem) from Sunday.

As a Pats' fan (since the 3rd grade when I was a classmate of Patrick Sullivan, Billy's son), I cannot account for Belichick's idiotic taping exercise - for a team with that much talent to cheat is like Bill Gates robbing a liquor store - but as we saw Sunday it makes no difference.

If L.T. could run the ball as well as he was running his mouth last week about the Pats', his team might have stayed in the game Sunday.

One of our LINEBACKERS had more yards running, when he made a pick and took it back for a TD. than LT had all night!

No, we're talking about how the Seahawks are gonna put the Bengals in their place this Sunday at 1:00 pm PST. . . . and in prior posts we saw the Raiders, Broncos, Giants and others.

Really, (..sniff!) . . . it brings a tear to my eye to see how hard these teams are working, all for the privelege of (depending on their conference) losing to the Patriots in the playoffs or the SB.

My wife has Chowd blood so we always root for the Pats from the AFC. Although it was great to see Tony Dungee win the big one.

Not this year.

Last year the Pats came within one set of downs of winning the AFC, and thet was when Brady had no one to throw to. This year he's got Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, and, of course, Randy Moss. We've also beefed up our linebacking corps with Adalieus Thomas, and everyone saw what he could Sunday. And we thought we were going to have to rely on Lawrence Maroney to carry the ball, but Sammy Morris has amazed everyone so that gives us a 1-2 punch in the backfield (and that's not even counting
Kevin Faulk)

Barring injuries, this is going to be a very good year for New England.

(... and now if someone would please administer CPR to the Boston Dead Sox...)

Somebody just shoot the baseball season right now. The Sox are going in the tank, the Yankees are hot, and the Tigers and Indians are going to tire each other out.

Just great. The Yankees in the World Series. Ugh.

Meanwhile, the Saints are 0-2 and sinking. But there is some joy: the Lions -- the LIONS -- are 2-0, and the Browns -- the BROWNS -- scored 51 points. (And glory to mighty Appalachian State!)

Roll on, World Cup -- go the Wallabies.

SoccerMom, Australia are nearly qualified for the Women's WC quarters too -- if they qualify first in their group, they could (conceivably) meet the US in the finals. If they qualify second, they'd be on a path to meet the US in the semis.

We now live in a NFLess state. But it doesn't seem to matter since there are two college teams here. Everyone has the college football spirit, which is awesome to see. (I grew up in San Diego where the majority of the population say... "Aztecs? Sports? Duuude! Do they have a surf team?")

Second NFL game I'd seen in 7 years, the first being when my Panthers lost a Super Bowl, and I couldn't even stand to watch it. That was the sound you made in Seattle every time the refs ... oh, I can't stand to think about it.

Remember when the Cowboys paid O'Donnell to THROW a game? Was this some sort of payback for the Super Bowl the Steelers got screwed out of, at your expense? I dunno, but it made me sick, and I've never even been to Washington State. I'm from North Carolina, dadgummit. I'm not supposed to care about y'all with your ugliest uniforms in NFL history.

COME ON YOU SUCKASS DETROIT LIONS! LET'S GO 3-0!!!!!!!

Take a chill pill, son. You have Kitna. He's always been the real deal. Carolina has David Carr. Granted, that's better than having a Weinke, but I'm starting to wonder by how much. I'd rather have Kordell Stewart than either of these guys. Or Bubby Brister. Or yo mamma.

HOLY SHIT! I assumed we would lose, but we beat them. We really beat them. CHICAGO BEARS 27 - GREEN BAY PACKERS 20

I am sure there is plenty of money and tears lost. :D :D :D

HOORAY! :TheWave: Okay, I gotta go to bed.

Seahawks are now 3 and 1, AND the leaders, thankyouverymuch :D

Wiped the field with the 49ers on Sunday. Next up for slaughter: Pittsburgh Steelers. Super bowl XL revisited !

Damn! Wish your optimism worked on them!

Turkey - Not a happy camper about her teams this weekend.

Hang with me and I'll get to the NFL.

When I wrote VIGILANTE JUSTICE, I lived in Tampa, Florida. Thus, the setting was Tampa, Florida. But years later, when I finally turned it into something publishable, I lived in Wilmington, North Carolina. Thus, I changed the setting.

Meanwhile, one of the most important minor characters was Detective Antonio Testaverde. Since I was down in Tampa, my choice of his last name was obvious. When I moved the setting to North Carolina, I never got around to changing the Testaverde name.

Well, now that Vinnie Testaverde is a Carolina Panther, I look positively psychic. Yes!

Look out you Patriots and Colts fans, Vinnie and the Panthers are taking your Lombardi this year. YES!

The Ancient.

No, he's not that guy on Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. He's Vinnie Testaverde, QB of my hometown Carolina Panthers! We rock!

(Okay, it was only Arizona, but still...)

So what do you see happening in the Super Bowl? Brady and Favre in a battle for the ages and a close, thrilling Patriot win?

(Well, Brady and Favre won't be on the field at the same time, but you know what I mean.)

When England can't make the Euros, you may as well talk about the American version (it's the equivalent of the Patriots not making the post season...well, maybe the Packers not making the post season...the Packers haven't won anything in a while either, lmao.)

Or Billy Bremner at Leeds offering someone two hundred quid to bring him down in the box...now THATs football.

Is anyone playing any football of their own here?

Only in my imagination.

When I was 11, I was shorter than anyone in school, including the girls. I used to hang out with my 15-year-old cousin and his high school buddies. I quickly learned that if I slammed my shoulders into their guts, the big mo-fos fell down. And that's why I'm a football junkie.

Michael at QB, cousin Clint at WR. He was taller than everybody, so it should've been like Brady to Moss, but I ran too much, knocking down the big guys, thinking I was Jim Brown out there.

"Michael, man, throw me the ball! I'm open!"

Nope, too busy being brutal. Calling my own plays, too, you notice. And since we didn't have equipment, maybe picking up some brain damage. No matter. All the best writers have it.

Heehee sounds like a memorable experience. At 11, I played in the boys football team.

I'm so torn here. I've always loved the underdogs, but in this particular instance I'd also love to see some perfection. And that's just wrong in itself, since my hometown team is the Panthers. WTF?
