Mike, I'm finding every choice way, way too busy, drawing the eye away from the content. The same images resized (to be smaller and repeat more often) might work, but ultimately, I vote None of the Above. If I had to choose from the actual choices, I'd go with Lions, but only grudgingly.

Maryn, difficult

I have to agree with Maryn. The backgrounds are too busy and embedding them so they're static makes it worse. This makes the text/background contrast rather poor, and steers me away from the site.

And the cat eyes are way, way, way too creepy.

Ack! Tiled backgrounds make my eyes bleed! Sorry. :(

I'm not sure if my website is a good example or not...but an agent did tell me he really liked it. Some agent from a Florida writers conference board I was on... No idea who he was, so could have been just poor judgment. ;)

I'd have to go with your flowers background if I had to choose one. It's the one that best flows from one tile to the next without jarring my vision.

My hubby is a web-developer and interface guru. His rule of thumb... less is more.

The backgrounds are all very beautiful - and I loved your "blog" - wish you had (or will) continued it. The cat eyes were creepy, though.
And of course I voted for the elephants!

I like the background that happens when you're waiting for one background to switch to another. IE plain beige.

My customer base is Asian. I MUST have backgrounds! They'd probably call me restrained over here.

The cat eyes belong to MY cat. Ain't nobody creepier than that, Grand Duchess.

Up in the poll, I see "cats" have beaten "birds." Ain't that always the way?

And hey, who moved my elephants?

Another shameless bump, not so much because I'll listen to your poll results or your opinions, but just because I want you to click that "vote for the elephants" link once per day, every day, and watch the ranking for Tuskers Bar rise. No joke, every time you get drunk there, you help elephants. Cool, ain't it?

If you must have a background, I like the birds. Help the elephants!

Yay cats! I don't find the backgrounds distracting but thats me. I'm one person, what do I know?

I just noticed the 'care for dogs' link. Save the soi dogs! Oddly enough, for their to be so very many of them running loose, very few a feral. Well in BKK anyway. It might be different up by you.

Same here, actually. Many soi dogs, no ferals. Although it could be different in other neighborhoods.

Care For Dogs is just awesome. They spoke at one of those Chiangmai Expats Club meetings where I play cub reporter, and I think I wrote a pretty good article about them.

Oh, and Chas and Rachel have been asked to speak about those elephants again, and to take us all to the Elephant Camp. Is that cool or what?
