Hello friends. Another month is here. Time for new (or old) goals to be accomplished.
I'll start!

1. Submit 1-2 pieces via snail mail
2. Sell 3-4 works
3. Submit to Blue Mountain weekly
4. Increase article word count by 100 words (I tend to write on the shorter side and I want to aim a little higher)
5. Submit to higher paying markets

Good luck, hope you hit all your targets.

My goals are, when I've received the notes on my screenplay 'Superstitious' from the UK Film Council, (they're already two weeks late - pah!), to lick it into shape ; to lick 'Unearthed' into shape, and get a couple more shorts written, and set my characters and some sort of plot for the legal drama I'm plotting. A title would be a good start.

That's a lot of goals, but then I've got a week in the Florida house on my own this month, always good writing pastures! Yippee.

OK, new (well mostly recycled) goals for September:
1. "Elijah's Funeral" to draft 2 (I need something for the September 10th crit group meeting)
2. "Los Lagos Bonitas de Chiapas" to draft 2 (and then there's a crit group meeting two weeks after that)
3. Finish draft 2 of The Archbishop's Son (and then there's a crit group meeting two weeks after that!)
4. Get "Elijah's Funeral" through draft 3 and into Critique Circle
5. Get "MeTube" through draft 3 and either to CC or into submissions.

"Proust Had His Madeleine" got rejected by One Story so I put that into the submissions queue. I think I'll easily hit 20 rejections for 2007 without having to consider any of the pendings in that total.

Stepping up to the plate...

1) Finish my final draft on Frenzy
2) Complete, edit and send off two shorts for publication
3) Read KC's screenplay (God, I'm the world's slowest reader)
4) Outline and start new novel for a December sub.

Not too much but enought to keep me busy. Good luck to the rest!

Thanks, Arisa, for helping us keep on track!

My goals for September:

1) Write at least 10 pages/week on my WIP, until/unless

2) My memoir is accepted by one of the 2 publishers still looking at it. At that point, I'd undoubtedly have to focus on revisions. (After a big celebration :)

3) If the memoir is turned down (I expect to hear early in the month) do some serious thinking about where to go with it. Don't get depressed, and keep working on the WIP!

Arisa, these threads are seriously the only way I stay organized.

I have one goal this month.

- Get to AWESOME CLIMAX OF EXPLOSIONS in Blue.

And that's all.

Get more done than I did in August. That's about it.

I had a lot on then, and yep, got plenty writing done, but not as much as I could or should have. I don't feel like I really pushed myself.

I'll be back with a definite target later, once I've had something to eat. Barbecue beef hula-hoops...mmm, brain food.

Awesome goals everyone! Good luck!

I am happy to say that I actually got some submissions in yesterday. Three to be exact. So happy. Tomorrow we'll likely hang at home, so I will have a chance to submit some more work.

Happy writing everyone...but enjoy your long weekend first :D

1.) Start Draft 3 of YA novel this coming Sunday (Sept. 9) -- no earlier, no later! This will mark exactly 3 weeks since I finished Draft 2 and tried to forget about it.

2.) Read 5 books.

3.) Polish "This Is Not a Folk Song" (short story from 2005) and send it out.

4.) Write 2 - 3 short essays or flash fiction pieces.

5.) Do at least 4 extra-super-early writing days (i.e. get up at 5:30, get to office at 7, write for 2 hours before anyone else comes in).

Whew!

Good luck, all!

Hmmm. Let's see.

1. Get 5 acceptances.
2. Write 5 new pieces.
3. Finish two chapters of the WIP.

That's all. I'll try to do better than this, but it's all I'm aiming for.

Great thread!

1. Finish outlining new beginning for Basement of the Universe, and then write it. Still working on the writing part.
2. Work out those nitpicky details I've been postphoning on Children of the Dome. Uh... Forgot all about it?
3. Work on plotting Shards. Have been working on worldbuilding and character building. Still have more work to do.
4. Finish those three articles that have been hanging around. Done.

Now, will I remember to come back here and report in? :)

How do you plan to get 5 acceptances in September?
Do you have a bunch of submissions out, or will you be subbing to super speedy markets?

I get regular work from my publications. If I come up with good ideas and can pull them off, assignments come easy (I've been at this for a long long time.)

Ya, if you're established writing non-fiction, it's a fairly easy thing to get a steady flow of publications (when I edited a graphic design publication, I was always happy to have people who could reliably keep a flow of articles coming in for each issue). On the other hand, I'd guess that there's no more than a dozen fiction writers who could do that with short fiction and probably none that actually do.

Good luck, everyone!

My September goals:

- Work steadily on new novel, not getting discouraged & depressed if I have several unproductive days.

- Balance school with work-- making B's or higher in all my classes, but leaving at least two hours of writing time a day.

Get more done than I did in August. That's about it.

I hear you. August, for lack of a better word, sucked. Every August from here on out will be judged by this last one, and because of that all the Augusts of my lifetime will be the bane of my existence. I will fear August's humid approach and then, once I am in the midst of it, will hate it with the bloodiest and most precise passion. The stunning heat, the days of escaping to the basement, the palpable...Augustness of August displeased me immensely throughout the month and even into the dawn of September. Damn you, August. Damn you 31 times.

I kicked ass in August on the MS. Now September's goal is to keep the momentum through the next draft.

I just sent out a new story into the big wide world. It wasn't one of the stories I had in mind when I wrote my September goals, but it's one for the statistics nonetheless.
