Among the delightful haul from my most recent birthday was this, a plush version of the real thing. It's delightfully yellow with brown eyes the size of quarters. It's so cute you'd never know its relatives were responsible for boring through the pages of tomes for their entire five-year lifespan, laying waste to some of the world's great libraries.

Most such acquisitions more or less name themselves with only minimal assistance from the humans, but this guy--or is it a girl?--is defying the norm.

What should I name my bookworm, and why?

Maryn, stumped

Well Squee is good. First thing to enter my mind when I saw it was Squish (after a brain eating worm in LEXX)

Leaf - another name for 'page' and it's Joaquin Phoenix's alternate first name!

Mark - it looks like a boy, and you could call him your bookmark

Turner - as in page-turner?

Bait - because I'm fishing for a name

or

Poe - in honor of Poe's "Conqueror Worm" poem.

Yes...but as Christ, I change my name frequently. So, today, as Jethro, I announce the worm to be Mildred. JUDAS!

Oh...and I checked. It's a she.

I like squick, squee and squish, but I think you need the honorary title of "Dr." in there. Dr. Squick has a nice ring.

And is anyone else inexplicably drawn to the dust mite?

The first thing I thought of was the little worm in the movie "Labyrinth", that says something like "Dont go that way" in a pseudo Australian accent. Then I thought of David Bowie in tights as the goblin king . Thats about all I got. :)

Xx| What about Sir Squick/Squee/Squish?

How about Sir Squeech? :tongue

Dust mite? I must return to that page, now. o_O

ETA--I see now. So, no, but now I'm feeling a tad squeemish.

Sir Squeemish? Hmm...|xX
