For non-bowlers this won't mean much, but any of you who ever rolled a ball down a lane might appreciate this.
These are my son's bowling scores of this morning:

246 - 230 - 216 - 200 - 210

Last time I bowled my thumb got stuck in the hole and the ball flew up in the air at nearly ninety degrees during my follow-through. Those lanes are surprisingly bouncy actually.

Congrats to son. I concede!

Well, it's clear he's got some sort of new-fangled robotic hand that's doing all the work.

Some of these replies are hilarious.
I especially like the one from dclary and writerterri.
No dclary it's not a robotic hand, if it was I would get one too.
And no I don't have 5 sons, I have only one son, and he did bowl 5 games.

I'm a bowler too, we bowl 5 games every Sunday morning, but I'm nowhere as good as he is. Although, I do have my moments.

Those are nice scores. I managed a 210 once, but everyone was laughing at me because I had the bigest score swing the bowling alley staff could recall.

86, 210, 94.

Yep, it was a fluke.

Pass on my congrats to your son.

220 av. Very nice. Congrats to your son! Was it during practice, league (5 games--probably not?) or in a tourny? EDIT: just saw your post, so scrap the tourny...

It's a great feeling when the ball rolls well. Our lanes down here in Aus. are noted for being dry--bone dry (especially here in the tropics). On top of that, the lanes are often dirty, especially in the back ends (the ball straightens up early and drives through the pins). I have a hard time stopping my ball going brooky (or, more often than not, to the seven pin!). Probably too much lift, too--even my clear Storm spare hooks from the seventeen board, to the five board, to brooky. Argh!

This is the part where you notice the little "scale" icon under my and writerterri's names in our hilarious replies that you especially like, and click them, see? And then type something like "ZOMG UR ZE DORK!"

Thank you.

Is that bowling lane in your basement?

You really should let the kid out more. There's more to life than bowling scores.

Ah. I thought so. 5 sons is a bit much. I would have thought you may not be okie dokie upstairs, know what I mean?

I bowled once and couldn't move for 3 days. Wonder what I was doing wrong. Next time I vow to let go of the ball before I get to the slippery part.

Carver, 246 isn't his highest. He once got a 289.
My personal best is 256.
I sometimes get a 200+ too, but I'm not as consistant as my son.
If I get a 200+ it's more of a 'happy accident'.

A friend of mine is bowling in a league where they use PGA oil patterns. Over 200 average required to join. It is amazing to watch these scratch bowlers stumble on with 135, 140, 150 games.

Some do well on some patterns, but they change the pattern every two weeks. They constantly adjust and change equipment.

I suck at bowling, so I just drink beer and watch.
