Earlier today, I almost walked into a colleague - she was backing through a door while I turned the corner to go through the same door. To stop us hitting each other, (we were literally a second from colliding) I put my hands on her shoulders and stepped to the side. She moved the same way so we did end up bumping. We laughed it off, both of us apologised and I thought that was it. Another colleague saw this and quietly told me to be careful. I asked why and he said what happened could have been seen as 'inappropriate'.

I thought he was taking the piss but no. He meant it. I asked the woman involved what she thought. She had NO problem with it and thought the guy who spoke to me was an arsehole.

What a sad state of affairs that such a thing could be seen as dodgy.

There are some weird ones out there, seun, and that's the truth. I've got a hundred stories of stuff just like that from my Human Resources days where some uptight nimrod got all huffy over completely innocent incidents... both involving them and having nothing whatsoever to actually do with them.

If you weren't known as the "Pantsless Wonder," I might be inclined to agree with you.

Yep. Society kinda sucks now. Values and Behaviours, Ethics, Codes of Conduct, Occupational Health and Safety, Zero Harm, Legislative Compliance, Monitored workplace (CCTV), Monitored use of Electornic Communications, etc etc.

You touched her SHOULDERS? Oh man, you can't do that. Are you out of your mind? I'm gonna file a class action suit or something.

SHOULDERS? I just can't believe.

I'm shocked they allowed you to keep your hands.

Yeah, I know. I did think about twiddling her nipples but thought that might be frowned upon.

It is inappropriate to put your hands on a woman's shoulders? Oh oh...

(Ladies, you heard it. No more shoulder massages.)

maestrowork, since you can't give massages to the ladies anymore, seun would like to get in line to get one. :D

EDIT: *runs* MattW is here too. I don't want to get "hit" up for anymore reps.

NOT THE SHOULDERS!!!

Oh man. That's really weird.

But speaking of shoulders... okay, now I'm not saying this is sexual harrassment, but it does make me feel kinda weird. I'm a female in her twenties. My boss (the CEO) is a man who is only a couple of years older. We're the youngest people in the business where I work and we have a fair bit in common so we chat when I'm in the office, which is one day a week. We're both married. No problem, right? Well, on that one day in the office... He ALWAYS walks by my desk and squeezes my shoulder "hi."

Honestly, it's starting to get on my nerves. Why the shoulder squeeze? Why?

I don't know but I would get squicked out when any gender squeezed my shoulder. I'm just not a touchy feely sorta person and I firmly believe in personal space. :D
