If you had to choose just one person as the consummate TV icon, who would it be?

Personally, I'd have to go with Johnny Carson.

Until he sells out in a week, I'd say Homer Simpson.

He's on TV, and he loves TV. That's double the consummation.

You've just stepped into another dimension...

Rod Serling!

Although I could go with Johnny too. I just didn't watch every 'Tonight Show' where as with the Twilight Zone I've seen every one a dozen times. (Thank God to the Fourth of July TZ marathons!):snoopy:

Ten posts and no mention of Paris Hilton? I'm ashamed of you people, just ashamed.

*throws in serious vote for Walter Cronkite (wishing Johnny Carson hadn't been taken already) and storms away*

Definitely Johnny Carson. He was on TV for what, four decades? From the days of black and white right through the dawn of CGI -- he first went on the air in 1953 and retired in '92 while Babylon 5 was preparing to usher in a revolution in computer graphics on television.

At its peak, more people watched the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (which ran for thirty years) than any other show on TV. He and that show were so popular that for decades, sitting in bed watching Johnny before going to sleep was a national pastime in the US and Canada.

Johnny was the king of TV, nobody before or since has even come close.

I have no idea why, but my very first thought was Alex Trebek. Hm...

But yeah, for my *actual* choice I'd have to go with Johnny Carson as well.

Oddly enough, there were only 39 episodes of The Honeymooners.

I'll throw my vote in for Johnny Carson. I think he was a stage of adulthood. When your parents finally let you stay up late enough to watch his monologue you knew you were of age.
