Around Atlanta, we have some in the $10k a year range up to a few in the $40k-50k a year range. Take your pick. Supposedly a bigger check gets better education, but I have no experience to comment on.

I live in the eastern (ie cheaper) half of Washington state.

The local catholic high school is 10% of your gross up to $8K a year, with some scholarships available.

The local secular private high school is $12K a year (last time I checked) with possibility of 50% financial aid/scholarships.

My town, which has excellent public schools, also has two non-religious private schools for grades K-12. Tuition at one is $14,150-$16,250, with financial assisance available for up to 1/2 of the student's tuition. The other, also K-12, costs $5,775-$16,525, the low end being kindergarten's half-day.

While a few of the town's rich kids go there, these two private schools (and the area's Catholic school) are considered a very good choice for the disaffected, unmotivated, and out-of-control child. Their teachers are excellent, and the student:teacher ratio low.

Maryn, whos kids went to public schools

At our local private boys' school, the fee as of two years ago was $15,000 for day boys, and $25,000 for boarders. Laptops, uniforms, books are extra. Parents are expected to keep the boys' personal accounts topped up for personal expenses, etc.

When my son was in private school, the cost was usually much less than we had paid for preschool/day care when he was younger. The Christian schools usually had programs for those who could not afford it - up to 50% off.

The cost varies greatly according to where the school is located, elementary, middle, or high school, religious or secular, day or boarding, etc.

If you're looking into this for your WIP I would find a couple of schools similar to what you're imagining and check out their websites. Tuition is easily found.
