hardest subject to write

I have many friends and family that write and I have throwen my hat in the ring to give it a whirl. I am the first out of my collected group to do Fantasy, everyone else I know does romance or thrillers. So my question is what is the hardest to write and get published? If there is not a option please post

Any genre that you don't like working in, and any project that you don't WANT to be working on.

I am afraid the only answer is 'it depends'. The best way to finish a book is to write something that interests you, the best way to publish it is to read some publishers guidelines before you start.

Which is why I checked "horror." One poster told me the problem with modern fantasy is "too much Rivendell and Bombadil, not enough Mordor and Shelob," or words to that effect.

I like being in Rivendell, don't want to go to Mordor. Problem is, that makes for a boring book... :b

It has nothing to do with genre.

The easiest fiction to write and sell is whatever you most love reading. The hardest to write and sell is whatever you most hate reading.

It's writing one of those books where your foreshadowing is so subtle and certain aspects of the story seem meaningless as you read through it, but once you get to a certain point in the story the meaningless elements become symbolic and powerful and the subtle foreshadowing becomes obvious and the reader feels like hitting himself on the saying "why didn't I see that coming." Thats proven to be a bit difficult for me. I think what i have to do is write the novel then go back and sketch in the intricacies.
**If I had to pick a genre it would be horror. It can be tricky to tap into peoples fears. It's also harder to make your story unpredictable these days because there are so many stories and movies out there and most seem to run along the same archetypes. It's easy to become cliche or cheesy.

I voted for romance. As a single, hetero man of thirty years, it's clear I don't know the subject. LOL. I also don't like reading them. If I tried to write one, Harlequin would call me up just to laugh at me. The editor might even come to Georgia to do so.

I think comedy is EXTREMELY hard to do well.

I much prefer Mordor and Shelob. And that causes problems too.

Now, that's really good. And it's funny.

I'd say science fiction. To do it right, you have to know science. Not only know it, but keep up with it. That's difficult. But if you don't, it comes out sounding like Buck Rogers (though then it may fall into comedy).

Here I am, married for so many years, yet I find romance to be the hardest for me. Hmmm...I hope that's not saying something about DH! No, what it is, is that I have an over-active imagination, and I find horror (which is not the way my day-to-day life is), easier to write. There's nothing in my past or present to interfere with my imagined horror scenes.

If I had to pick one, I'd pick Romance, only because I find love scenes the most difficult to write, regardless of what genre I'm working in (I write sci/fi & fantasy).

My vote is horror, by the definition I don't like to read it.

But I do like to kill my darlings with horrible deaths.

I don't write or read horror, generally. but a hackneyed horror plot isn't scary at all, while a hackneyed romance or thriller is more effective. that means originality is mroe important. there are fewer guidelines, and i find making sure something is actually scary ot be very difficult.

I think it depends upon how much knowledge you have of subject material. For example, if you were going to write a war drama and had no understanding of what military life was like, it would probably be very hard to write. Or if you wanted to write a story about space exploration, it would probably be very hard to write if you did not understand scientific theories which are used to make space travel believable.

I think it's important to do your homework on a subject to help with the believability of your story.

It's not the writing that is hard at all--- no matter what genre
