My girlfriend had a work thing tonight - she told me about it ages ago and I said I would go. I didn't. Now before you call me rude names, hear me out.

My brother is getting married this weekend which means no writing on Saturday and most of Sunday as we're having a couple of family members from out of town staying. Obviously I can't get anything done until they sod off. It was the same deal last weekend as it was my brother's stag night. With that and spending all of Saturday sorting out suits, I got nothing done. A couple of other issues with the wedding have got in the way of any free time I might have, and next weekend, there's another wedding so I've been feeling a little pressurised. With so much stuff getting in the way, I've barely managed 2000 words in over a week. This has really been pissing me off and it came out today when I said I would be a lot happier if people would just give me some space to breathe. End result, I didn't go to her work thing. She's pissed off with me; I feel like a turd and it's still bloody raining. OK, that has nothing to do with it but I felt like mentioning it.

So, am I an arsehole?

Why the bloody hell would you want to go to a wedding anyway? They're the most depressing, timewasting methods of throwing away a weekend I can think of. If you're single, you get lonely and if you're in a relationship you start panicking about your partner putting the squeeze on you. "Why don't we do that, darling?"

Yeah, scuse me while I stick my face in a blender.

Maybe if I tell people my poo story from a couple of days ago, they'll leave me alone.

Where's the poll? A thread with this title needs a poll.

Yes.

Here's why: GF probably told everyone you were coming. Now she has to explain why you're not with her. I hope she explains it by saying, "Oh, I dumped that loser. His replacement is over there." Points to bar area, indicating hot stud.

Yes, you're an arsehole, but you're our arsehole.

I don't blame your girlfriend for being pissed--been there, done that, it ended in divorce--but at the same time I can understand you needing some time to yourself.

(And I fricken hate weddings too, which is why we eloped.)

Can't you just fake a raging case of diarrhea? Whip up some crocodile tears and say "Sweetie, my rectum is on fire! I couldn't possibly sit through the service and I'd have big, lumpy farts," then cover your face with your arms and cry like you're really embarassed. This also works when you get pulled over by the cops or if you need to leave work early.

I think your girlfriend would really go for it if you said, "How about we don't socialise together any more, but I just call you up when I want sex?"

The short answer: Yes.

But I've made a few lame excuses too in my life to get out of things.

I suggest a nice dinner out, chocolate, and pleading for forgiveness.

Yup, and I highly recommend not asking for an owjobblay (I mean really, do you want her teeth down there after this?)

It's called the "ScarletPeaches Treaty". Not sure how it got the name but I think it originated somewhere in Europe.

Wedding?

I'd rather get beaten with a stick, although the Lebanese-Palestinian wedding I went to a few years ago was fun . . . Ooooo, swords and guns!

Of course not. A relationship based entirely on sex and not having to go to other people's weddings sounds smashing! :D

What Miss Scarlet just said-but since I call most folks assholes and they usually are-yah-yer an asshole!! Or was that arsehole-ah well forgive me it is an age thing!!!!

This needed a pole. I feel like dancing.

You have a hole where?

Now, where was I...

Every site needs a donky's behind and ours happens to be you. Sorry. It had to be said by all the dorks above me, but I, of course, think you're wonderful.

Have fun at the wedding.

Well yes. You said you would go and you didn't. But I also understand why you didn't and i often play the martyr and let my writing (ANd my self) suffer for other people's things so maybe I should take a page from your book and be an ass once in a while. ANd like some one said, you OURs. Right?

Or, if you're married, you can snicker at the bride and groom and think "haha, suckers..."

Or, in my case, if you're the photographer...you get paid. So it's worth it.
